if all we add to this roster between now and feb is another hamilton, ughh we will have wasted yet another dhoward prime year for nothing... smh.
That's harsh, morey would of known that it's harder to trade during the season for difference makers than it's ever been, I'm just hoping something in draft day for something big to drop or just wait for the FA crop and cross my fingers
I'll give you guys ONE good reason why Millsap won't be Houston Rocket by the the deadline: Spoiler http://www.sportressofblogitude.com/2014/03/21/hawks-commission-huge-3d-billboard-of-paul-millsap/
Look... the Rockets are going to plan on going for EVERYONE this Summer if they don't make a trade at the deadline. That's a given. I do think that a July acquisition makes sense in the fact that they can, again, add a huge piece to their team without sacrificing a ton of trade pieces. Right now, without further moves & not knowing exactly what the salary cap will be (given potential "cap smoothing") the Rockets will have one of two things to work with - Cap Space - Anywhere from 8 to 15 million dollars or The Lin TPE where they can acquire a player view S&T for up to 8.4 million Millsap is a target in that range that most people will GUESS on. I'm not saying Cyberx is making a guess and hedging his bets (obviously the guy has a proven track record), but its a good guess given the fact of what teams have been willing to pay Millsap in the past, and his obvious fit with the Rockets. Millsap would give a very similar impact to the team as Trevor Ariza has given. Much like Parsons, Jones might end up being a better young player in a year or two, but Millsap might fit their needs a little better in the short term. Much more of a win now player. However... if the Rockets strike out on Millsap, or Dragic (probably top two REALISTIC targets), I'm sure they will be ok with what they end up doing next year. Remember, their list is super long, and SOMEBODY will get overlooked at some point much like Ariza and fall to the Rockets in their salary range which is probably secondary to the true max cap space other teams will have to entice the more popular free agent targets like Rondo, Gasol, etc. Next year is a long way away. We have to see what this team can do this year first.
Its tough to see that move not making sense for everyone (well except the rest of the NBA). Especially if Pop is not going to retire (something that is talked about). Even without any cap smoothing, the Spurs are setup to have roughly 23 million in cap space with the projected cap that came out before the TV deal. With a cap increase they have the ability to add a Gasol, and someone else. Also if they get word that Gasol is in play, I wouldn't be shocked to see them move Splitter to give them even more cap space, or to do a S&T for a better fit PF next to Gasol. I guarantee you that a team will try to repeat the Chandler Parsons contract for competitive reasons to screw with the Spurs & to try and steal Kawhi the day free agency opens. Regardless, I don't think an NBA franchise that could lose two Hall of Famers will be able to recover as mightily as the Spurs might be able to do. Truly amazing & you have to tip your cap to them IF they are able to pull it off.
Agreed. If they are able to add Gasol and another boarderline star that will be a very frustrating situation for Rocket fans that have been counting down the years that the Spurs reign would end. PG – Parker/Mills SG – Danny Green SF – Kawai/Bellaneli PF – Millsap/Boris Diaw C - Gasol A roster like this would be sick. Especially running the spurs system.
This thread serves as it's own subforum, a distant world were the folks fixated on transactions can speculate. Like an underground society or sewer people, too disfigured to roam the streets above.
i'm only saying that this team as constructed is not going to win a title -- even morey himself has said as much. so another dhoward prime year is essentially being kicked to the side while we methodically attempt to build the roster.
reminds me of the D&D Obama re-elected but people talking about electing hilary in 4 years just bizarro
Green and Bellaneli are free agents. The Spurs only have 5 guys under contract for next year: Parker, Diaw, Splitter, Mills, and Anderson. Leonard and Joseph are Restricted. They have a lot of work to do. There's no guarantee it will work out for them.
Would love to steal Danny Green from the spurs. Have him in the rotation backing up the 2/3 would be deadly. Another 3&D guy.
Spurs role players never put up the same numbers once they leave SA. Jackson is probably the only one who did and he was a lil more than just a role player for SA. Plus he was still young and developing his game when he left.
Yeah i tend to agree with that. But Green has the exact skill set that makes Ariza successful here in Houston. Hits threes at a high clip, knows how to position himself for catch and shoot, he's long and he plays good defense. Also i think Green drives it to the basket just as well (if not better) than Ariza. If our wing rotation included Green backing up Harden & Ariza (along with Pap playing backup 3/4) we would be tough to stop. Terry probably won't be back next year so we'll have a need for a deadeye three point shooter to play off harden. I think Green would fit nicely.
Just to continue that stream of thought. If you get another long 2/3 wing player that’s in the 3&D mold of Ariza (i.e. green) you could conceivably have a lineup on the floor at times that looks like this. PG – Harden SG – Danny Green SF – Ariza PF – Kostas Center - Howard Offensively, the floor would be spaced for harden to opperate and on the defensive side these guys can all switch with each other on picks. I know its a pipe dream but Danny Green would be awesome in our rotation.
Hey, you should post that in D&D. Start a thread and be sure to include the image. I can assure you that a lot of folks would love to give an opinion about that down there, in "the sewer." ;-)- (seriously - just don't post that stuff in the GARM!)
