Exactly...i said this earlier in this thread...people just have the Love trade on their mind because it just happened and think that's the norm, but the Wolves had all the leverage because Cleveland wanted Love now.
Let's make this a little more interesting..... How about a wager regarding those mighty Pelicans? Reading this thread, there should be quite a few takers. I say that the NO starting five on opening night + Evans when he comes back misses at least 70 combined games due to injury for the regular season. I'll take all comers at $15.00 a pop....to the tipjar. Anyone who wants in just post and I will verify with a response to each of you. A preseason injury nullifies the bet.
Good post. Here are a couple of other rundowns: DWill to the Nets The Jazz received Derrick Favors; Devin Harris; a 2011 first-round pick (used to select Enes Kanter); a 2013 first-round pick (which was later traded along with Utah’s No. 14 overall pick for the rights to Trey Burke); and $3MM. What is important to remember is that the Jazz executed this trade pretty quietly and without a messy Dwightmare-ish saga. In other words, they didn't exactly have their backs against the wall. ------------------- The Knicks received Anthony; Renaldo Balkman; Chauncey Billups; Anthony Carter; and Shelden Williams from Denver. They also received Corey Brewer from Minnesota. The Timberwolves received Eddy Curry; Anthony Randolph; and $3MM from New York. They also received a 2015 second-rounder from Denver. The Nuggets received Danilo Gallinari; Wilson Chandler; Raymond Felton; Timofey Mozgov; the right to swap first-round picks in 2016; a 2014 first-rounder (No. 12 overall); a 2012 second-round pick (Quincy Miller); a 2013 second-round pick (via Golden State); and $3MM cash from the Knicks. Denver also received Kosta Koufos from Minnesota. http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2014/08/retrospective-carmelo-anthony.html http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2014/08/retrospective-deron-williams.html
between opening night and December 15th the Pelicans would have played 23 games. Looking at their schedule, it's possible for them to go 8-15 during that stretch.
That team has so much money tied up in pieces with injury history Gordon - $15m Evans - $11m Holiday - $10.5m Anderson - $8.5m Honestly, you could even throw in Asik (if you believe his knee injury with us), but at least he is expiring.
Yo Cyberx - you hear anything about Ray Allen? As far as I know, he's 50/50 on playing vs retirement and we're on his shortlist.
As Bima noted: An $8.4 TPE, plus a possible lottery pick, plus Terrence, plus Canaan, plus Bev, plus Kostas, plus Capella, plus 17 and 19 picks....is a lot more than just squat.
Let's wager that we get a major PG before the start of the season. I hope you take my money, honestly.
You don't have to be bottom half of the league to get at least the 14th pick. All you have to do is miss the playoffs in a stacked west. Phoenix was 14th pick this year.
70 sounds low. Frankly, Honestly, sincerely I wish health to all. BTW -- is it missed games or missed due to injury? Either way, I'll take the over.
I love the fact that you're game , xiki..... But, I'm with YOU. That's what I was saying. I don't see them making the playoffs, even if they could for the most part stay healthy. But, I'll wager on top of that that NO is beset by injuries. They don't really have any margin of error IMO. My point was that we have valuable assets.....This is but one that will likely be around 9-10 and could easily end up in the 4-7 range. ..and it was games missed due to injury.
Betting on someone getting hurt, other than leaving a bar teetering, is anathema to me. History, however, is the becursed precursor to their season. Assuming the Pels are healthy, who is out of the playoffs for them to be in? I don't see a lot of 50 W teams this season with so few Philly bad. I'll give NOLA the 14th pick, and consider that an attractive asset.
