Here's the question now. Now that Philly knows Minny will pay Bledsoe the max...why aren't they threatening to sign Bledsoe to a max offer sheet to generate a trade and gain some assets out of it?
Yes...if that team deems he is worthy of the max. They'll have to carve out the space to sign him if they trade for him at the QO. However if he is signed to say a 1-yr deal at $12 million, then they can re-sign him without carving out cap space. Our 2-year max was an attractive option to EB until Minny came along willing to give him 4 years. But sounds like the problem is PHX wants the farm to trade him. They want All-Star talent back for a guy that they want to pay on the level of a non All-Star player. There were only 3 players in the 2014 All-Star game who weren't either on a max contract or who have been on max contracts or who will be on a max contract as soon as their current contract ends: Paul Millsap, Tony Parker, and Demar DeRozen. And DeRozen could wind up being a max player himself. And Parker was essentially a max player for a couple seasons, coming up just short of the max by $100,000 or so. And Paul Millsap could very well be on his way to a greater than 4/48 deal after this season. So, methinks PHX is being a little unreasonable in their trade demands.
Hey, I can live with little flaws. But when the flaw is huge where one can't defend, shoot, or make FTs, thats bad.
I'm assuming you mean Philly would sign Bled to a max and then trade him to Minnesota in December? What assets could Philly get from Minny? Martin and Bud? Outside of possibly Lavine I don't see any great assets on the Wolves considering Wiggins is most certainly off the table and they already owe their protected pick to Phoenix. I believe a big part of Flip offering a max deal to Bledsoe was just him doing a solid for Rich Paul and Mark Termini. (Termini is Flip's agent as well as the lawyer who who does the contracts for Paul). Rich Paul is the shadowy figure in the background that helped orchestrate Lebron and Love to Cleveland which netted Minny a nice little haul. Would Minny like Bledsoe? I'm guessing sure. Would they give him a max deal and give up assets in the process? Highly doubt it. I don't count Martin and their other bad contracts as assets. Any team that gives Bledsoe a max is taking a huge injury risk in itself without giving up other assets in the process.
I find it difficult to believe Flip would go this far to do Paul a "solid". He's jeopardizing his relationship with Rubio here. Just don't think it's wise from a professional standpoint. Simply can't believe Flip would be that dense.
Would that be the Kevin Martin who doesn't play for them anymore, and the Jeremy Lamb who rode the bench in the playoffs?
Didn't ATL sign him to a 2 year deal? He's expiring after this year. Doesn't that mean ATL doesn't have any bird rights on him and therefore can't offer him anymore than any other team could? If ATL has no real advantage in keeping him if they aren't confident that he wants to play in ATL since the money would be the same. Am I incorrect on the Bird Rights?
