Parsons went and signed that deal because Morey wouldn't give it to him. Morey thought Harden/Howard/Parsons was not good enough to win a title. Next offseason it will be a similar situation except the question becomes: Is Harden/Howard/Ariza/Rubio +a 10-13 million dollar player a contender? I think the answer is yes, so the risk is not as great as this year.
I have never really been a fan of Rubio, but I haven't looked deep into the numbers, due to his glaring weaknesses. I guess I will look a little further.
How ironic. Talk about dense. How about the guy who says Rubio isn't a winner when Rubio is only 23 years old.
For the kind of money Rubio allegedly wants, the fact that he never was even able to get in the playoffs with a player like Kevin Love is pretty disappointing. He's only 23, but he's grossly underwhelmed thus far given the hype he had coming into the league.
There's too many players that are winners that didn't win their first 3 seasons for this statement to be accurate. For instance, Paul Pierce was below .500 in each of his first 3 seasons. Guy won a ring and Finals MVP. He is anything but a loser. Secondly, Rubio was 21-20 in his rookie campaign. So he doesn't even meet your own criteria for not winning in his first 3 seasons. There are plenty of hall-of-fame credentialed players who lost in their first 3 seasons.
Is that gonna improve his jumpshot or make him finish better? Saying Rubio isn't a winner doesn't make sense either. He's the 4th best player on that Minnesota team let's not blame him for not winning
what's worse - can't get to playoffs or getting there and can't get out of first round (see TMac). to me it's all the same
Howard - 22.4 Harden - 15.8 Ariza - 8.2 Rubio(cap hold) - 8.1 Johnson - .6 roster cap hold - 3 Thats 58.1 million in salary, the projected cap next year is 66.5, which would give us about 8.4 million in cap to spend. So not only would we HAVE to get rid of Jones, Motiejunas, Beverley, Capela, the Pelicans 1st, Canaan and Daniels, but we'd still only have 8.4 million to spend in cap. Did I do the math wrong or am I missing something?
I think we should put all of our assets into Faried. Faried's cap hold will only be 4.2 million. Allowing us more flexibility to keep players and to spend money in the 2015 free agency. Rubio Dragic Rondo Ellis Jackson Walker Knight Will all be free agents in 2015.
Unless someone like Millsap wants to sign for 8.4 million, which he won't, the only way bballholic's plan works is if next year cap is higher than 66.5 million. There have been rumors of a step-wise increase, which would put Millsap back in play. I've been reading this thread from the beginning, I just need something to happen SOON lol
You are missing this. www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2014/09/08/Media/NBA-media.aspx While the current TV deal will be up in 2016, which is the year most people pegged for the cap increase, the NBA don't want such a big cap boom and is working to start the new contract NOW. Which means will take effect next season so the cap will increase gradually instead of spiking. The cap projections you have is based on the old TV contract. Based on the new one, it should higher. Likely $70+ mil. Whether that's enough for Millsap I don't know. But the Rockets will have enough money to sign someone to signficant money.
Actually, in games in 2011/2012 where Rubio and Love both played, the Wolves were 20-18. In 2012/2013 they were 2-2 and in 2013/2014 they were 39-39. Overall in all their games together the Wolves were 2 games over .500.
This polarization about Rubio harkens back to the polarization that took place on here when we traded for Harden. "He deserves the max" ... "He doesn't deserve the max, he's not a superstar, he can't defend, he didn't start for OKC", etc.
