To keep our mle. If we use cap space then that means we've dropped below the cap and therefore lose the mle. S&t lets us operate above the cap. Bima discussed this as the ideal option to keep more tools for upgrades later. We'd have to incentivize the wizards though. Probably working on that now.
The Wiz spent their MLE on Pierce. S&T gives them an 8.6 mil TPE. The Rockets do it to get the MLE and LLE. If they use cap space to sign Ariza those exceptions aren't available to them.
Asik hasn't been traded yet. In fact, I don't think Lin has been traded yet. So both players, or at the very least Asik is still able to be simultaneously traded to make the 150% rule come into effect. Most likely I think the Rockets will use Asik to get Ariza in S&T. Especially since Washington has signed Pierce so they have literally no reason not to agree to such a trade. Not sure how the timing would work though. But that's clearly up to the Rockets and Morey to figure out how to ensure we keep our MLE available. If there's anything you can trust the Rockets on, it's how to manipulate the cap rules to their benefit.
I do find it odd we haven't completed the Asik trade. Sounds like after the Gee move it could have happened. EGO to the Bullies for Loozer.
Ely needs to be included for the deal to work but his trade restriction doesn't expire until July 14.
I agree, nothing is finalized and the trade are only loose frameworks right now. Lots of pieces that can be arranged to keep our exceptions. But I do think if they're going to be simultanteous trades, they have to be fully executed by 11pm. After that with parsons contract on our books or not, we don't have as many options anymore.
Ok jopatmc. I know you like to live in a fantasy land where your idiotic predictions come true, and where you haven't already been run off the forum once with your tail between your legs. I like to know that the "insider" info we are fed has some truth to it. I've never once questioned or doubted guys like cyberx, who have proven to be legit based on their history. This guy shows up out of nowhere, but if we ask questions about the clear inconsistencies in his current story and his post history, then we are somehow being rude? Give me a break. The guy said he's worked for the Rockets for a year. Yet in the last few months he's made posts that said he lives in Indonesia and works as a missionary, and that we should "Fire Mchale!!!" That seems odd for someone whose posts are supposedly approved by our front office. I'm sorry if you think it's rude for me to ask those questions, but I think they are perfectly valid. That's not "laying the guy out and cutting him open." They are simple questions, that anyone should expect to be asked if they make the claims that he does. If simple questions like that run off an insider, then they probably should have never been posting in the first place.
I think the Rockets prefer the 8.5 million exception over the non-guaranteed contract of Gee (which would knock the trade exception down to about ~5.4 million). So I'm guessing the Rockets will not take Gee in a trade...but who knows. Regardless, since Bosh or no other major free agent is on the line there is no reason to rush the trade unless something else comes up. Also, the Rockets could be putting the Asik trade on hold as they work out a possible S&T with the Wizards that would be combined with the Asik trade. Asik to NO Lottery Pick and Ariza to HOU 2nd round pick and 8.6 mil Trade Exception to WAS in that scenario absolutely nothing changes about the Asik trade and absolutely nothing changes about the Ariza deal except Wizards get something of value in return for doing the S&T and the Rockets stay above the Salary Cap and get to keep all of their exceptions (MLE, TPE, BAE). Keep in mind that the Wizards lose absolute nothing in this deal since they have already lost Ariza.
So did we get a te from the lin AND asik trade? do we get to keep both if we a&it ariza? I think that would be redundant since we could not use both anyways due to the lt threshold. I think roe is legit, and definitely cyberx. Roe is still new here so I can see why a few posters have their doubts as they might have missed some of his posts. They are most likely the same guys who are not contributing members or searched his posts on google. Why cyberx gets questioned is beyond me. Some posters are idiots, nothing new.
cyberx gets questioned because he's not actually a Rockets insider. I mean, he probably does have access to some Rockets information, but he's an agent/players insider. What players and agents know are different from what teams know. He's very good on some things. Free agency is perfect setting for him. If the Rockets called Player X's agent, he probably gets the scoop faster than anything else. But if Morey's talking to Dell Demps on how to structure the Asik trade, he likely knows nothing. To properly judge insiders, one really has to appreciate the scope of what they can give you.
If the Rockets are somehow able to make one last splash this free agency they'll need those unguaranteed contracts to package with Jones, etc... If there are no deals forthcoming the TPE is what they'll want. I think that's where the speculation about a 50/50 trade before matching parsons come from. most of those unguaranteed deals are good for between days or the next few months. make one last round of calls looking for a big fish if not get the tpe.
True. I have learned to take breaks. I dont need to know the news right when it happens, but it is fun to see it right when it happens. I guess the matching deadline combined with the possibility of losing a fan favorite to a hated division rival has caused a serious sense of urgency around here.
The fact is he is legit and he posts inside info. He is probably an agent (sports, sports marketing, whatever) and most agents are connected to guys with inside info.
