I can see it now.."Maury sure did give up a lot for a player he could have signed outright" *sigh*...
Canaan + TJones makes sense. Clearly the NOP 2015 pick is the juicy asset. Can the Rockets make this trade without it? Dragic will be a UFA after the season, so how much leverage do they have? I personally would keep Johnson over Canaan. But it would not be a deal breaker. TJones & NOP 2015 1st are our best "in play" assets. It would be nice if the Rockets could make the trade and hold one of those back to use for a PF upgrade.
The rockets are not trading BOTH of TJones and DMo. The one that stays is the one that starts. I prefer to keep DMo.
I wouldn't mind seeing T.Jones and NOP 1st plus Canaan for Dragic. Johnson is gem and would hate to see him thrown into the mix, but rockets in a win now mode. A Harden, Howard and Dragic core make the rockets instantaneous contenders IMO.
Remember......we're trying to trade for an ALL-NBA PG. He's not going to come cheap, regardless of how short his contract is. We'd still have DMo (who I really think could have a breakout year), a few really good 2nd round picks, Capela, Papanikolaou, Lin TPE, rights to Sergio Llull and Alessandro Gentile. Personally, this is how I would like to see things unfold: In mid-September, we trade TJones, Canaan, NOP 1st, and Gee for Dragic. We role with DMo as our starting PF for November and December. If DMo doesn't show big-time improvement, then we trade for one of: Ersan Ilyasova Josh McRoberts Channing Frye Ryan Anderson Paul Millsap
No. Some posters don't communicate what they really mean: use the TPE to absorb the contract of someone (an Ilyasova) who makes up to $8.3 million. And some posters just still get it wrong. You can't trade TPEs.
DMo has the POTENTIAL to be exactly what we need and want out of our PF. TJones is a better player than DMo right now, but his game isn't as good a fit. DMo's upside is higher. I can't think of a single player to compare his game to. His combination of size, touch around the basket, speed, and shooting potential is rare. He has the potential to be a starting 4 on a championship team......TJones doesn't have that.
TJ is more valuable than Dragic with the age/potential/contract. Dmo for Dragic sounds fair. NO pick is way too much for a rental, while we have Bev as a better fit especially on defense. The saving on capspace with Bev as starter serves us better for the future. Dragic is spectacular in PNR heavy PHX system as primary ball handler, but I doubt he'd be as good as third option here.
"JUST" to get Dragic?? He's the best PG that's somewhat available right now (and yes, I'm including Rondo in that). You have to give up something to get something. Nick Johnson is completely unproven. Dragic has performed at an INCREDIBLY high level for the last few seasons. Morey will pull the trigger on that deal every day of the week.
I am similar, used to think I was ambidextrous, but its actually not. I blame my dad lol. My mom and sister are both left handed for everything, my dad is right handed for everything. Therefore when it came to school, writing, eating with forks and spoons, etc. I am left handed. But when it comes to sports (my dad taught me most of these) I am right everything. As I got older, however, it really broadened my sports game (your sons might enjoy this as well) since I think I was born left dominant for everything (I am left eye dominant as well) my sports were able to excel For example, I can kick with both legs as my left showed to be a bit more natural, I can bat both ways (but not throw, good God once you learn to throw one way you look like an idiot throwing the other lol) and I can dribble a basketball equally with both. I think its cool that you showed your sons how to use their other hand early, it will make them more versatile in the long run. Good luck with their sports endeavours.
