I'm going with what Jonathan Feigen said after the Bosh deal fell through and assume not much will happen between now and the start of next season.
@schultz_report "Hearing Eric Bledsoe and #suns getting closer. Suns a bit afraid another team will offer him a 2-year deal, plus year 2 player option..." 4:23pm*- 3 Aug 14 https://twitter.com/Schultz_Report
That's a risk on Bledsoe's end, but it is a legit threat....especially from a team like the Bucks. Hopefully this gives us a shot at Dragic.
Yeah...can't do this unfortunately. Has to be at least 2 years before any options. http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q44 So offer sheet has to be for at least 2 seasons with a player option after the second season.
Good catch. There is still a threat of someone offering what I like to call a "Parsons" 3 years of 15 mil max per year with a option on the third not to mentioned loaded with a trader kicker.
Yes, and I think that's the "ideal" contract in light of a new CBA coming up in a couple seasons. Throw in a trade kicker.
Doesn't need to be max, 2+1 at the same amount he's being offered by Phoenix, 12m, is better than 4x12, as it lets him opt in if injured and opt out if not and the new tv rights kicks in. Makes the contract worthless as a trade asset (he's either a no trade, or an expiring for the length of the contract)
I like it. Offer, or tell the Suns you are about to offer, and Bledsoe is eager to accept (and I think he would be), a "Parsons contract", so they can either give up Bledsoe, match that absurd contract, or do a trade with the Rockets for Dragic. Yeah, I like that idea a great deal. The obvious question is, can we do that?
The fact that this thread has made it to 293 pages and counting is a testament to King Drew's trolling abilities. Well done, sir!
Except it is not. Not by a long shot. It's a horrible structure which screws every team that tries it with a player they sign because 2 years doesn't give you bird rights. Meaning that in 2 years, if Parsons doesn't suck and opt out, Dallas can only re-sign him with money cleared under the cap. They can't go over the cap to re-sign him. I'm pretty sure this is why Morey never anticipated Dallas' offer. Nor do I believe Cuban truly believes he got over on the Rockets. Parsons just has to remain the same player and in two years, he'll leave Dallas or force Dallas to clear cap room to sign him.
2 years gives you up to 175% early bird rights (which will be well over his max anyway), so yeah they can re-sign him, just not for 5 years. Heck Cleveland can re-sign Lebron even if he opts out next year, since 1 year non bird is 120% (still greater than his max) without needing cap space. The 3 year rule was put in place to prevent the 1 year min nonsense teams were pulling in the 90's
Then you'll see the real "lol's", when Dallas has to clear almost 20mil to sign Parsons, after him being the same player forever....HA HA
I hear where you are coming from but it seem to me at least in the last two seasons the only players that care about bird rights now are players in there thirties or older. Before the current CBA you could keep your bird rights and all the benefits that came with it in a sign and trade. Now that you loose the raises associated with your bird rights in a sign and trade younger players seem to be going for playing where they want to play VS going where the maximum amount of money is. If Bosh could have got his 5th year in Houston do really think we would be in Miami? or if Melo could have gotten his 5th year in Chicago would he still be in newyork?
