That price is way too high for an expiring, you just outbid what everyone but cleveland bid on kevin love.
A 2-year deal with a 3rd season player option takes Rondo to the 10 year mark where he can increase his max amount. It also takes him up to the 2017 season when the players will likely get a better deal, more money. THERE IS A REASON LEBRON JAMES, THE BEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE, IS TAKING A 1+1 CONTRACT.
lol Yeah you right. The max in 2 years is going to be high. Smart for Rondo. Makes him tradeable too.
But you see, did an insider have to tell you we had to wait a certain amount of days before we can trade recently-acquired contracts?
Does being eligible for the 10-year max matter that much to Rondo? For Lebron, sure, people will pay him whatever the max is for him plus millions more if they were allowed to. I doubt that Rondo is that same category. There are just too many good to great PGs in the NBA nowadays. Rondo is very good, but he hasn't done enough for people to put him in the very top tier of NBA superstars.
That's just assuming anyone will want to pay Rondo a 4-5 year max contract 2-3 years from now. He's not LeBron... "IF" Boston offers him a 4-5 year max he probably would take it. Melo didn't take a two year deal. Not everyone is going to gamble on themselves like LeBron.
I don't know how much it matters to him. I'm just saying if I were Ainge I'd be working him over about signing an extension that carries him to the 10-year mark and into a freshly negotiated CBA. Gives Ainge a lot of time and secures Rondo a lotta jack.
lol Please. Rondo can and will get the max from any team. Elite players like him are hard to find. Except for Morey. He seems to find them.
But, you see, you have to wait 60 days before you can combine them in a new trade. You could trade each separately without the wait, but, you see, by themselves, they won't get us jack. And, well, this doesn't require insider info. So less cynicism and more patience.
lol Yeah that new TV contract coming in 2 years means a lot of money. Seems a few other players are looking at that time frame too.
Bruh! Its just a hypothetical. I personally think that trade would be a steal for Dragic. If we get could get him for less cool, but that trade is a pile of **** for a all star caliber PG in the first place IMO. BTW, the name is Dragic, not expiring. Dragic has way much more value then just an expiring contract, don't pretend you don't know that. Also, realize we would have to give up way more to clear the space to sign him then we would if we traded for him. Howard, Harden, Ariza, Beverley's cap hold, and roster cap holds alone would cost about 51.3 million in salary, leaving only 15.2 left to spend in free agency (barely enough to bid on Dragic). We would have to trade away Jones, Motiejunas, Capela, Johnson, Daniels, Canaan and the Pelicans pick just to clear that space, we'd also be giving up our MLE and BAE for the 2015-16 free agency. We'd also not be able to use Lin's TPE on anything but expiring players like maybe Bass, this years MLE would either have to be traded or a 1 year rental who would walk next free agency. All that just to get a chance to BID on Dragic (or any other player), no guarantee we get him.
Not if we are talking about the 10-year-or-more-veteran, 35% of the salary cap, "max" salary. This "max" we are talking about starts at $20.6M for this upcoming season with a $63M salary cap, and will be substantially more when the salary cap increases in the future. Kyle Lowry just signed for $12M/year and to me he is comparable to Rondo, maybe even preferable for some teams due to his superior range shooting and recent health history. Even if you think Rondo is superior to Lowry, is he so much better that you'd be willing to give Rondo a 4-5 year contract that starts at $20.6M under current cap restrictions or substantially more under future cap numbers? And if Rondo were to sign a 2 year extension in order to become a free agent when he is eligible for that "max," he'd be in his 30s when he becomes eligible for that 35% of cap 10-year-max. Isn't age a concern at that point?
The only point guards worth a full max at this point (Parker is too old) are Paul, Westbrook and Curry. There's a few in that minimax range though.
But you see, if that is correct then plowman is really irrelevant. Bima could have said we have to wait for those contracts to become tradable, would that make him an insider? Clearly not, just shows he knows the regulations.
You guys. We are all talking like we already have dragic. Scares the s*** out of me that we will be disappointed
Bosh getting the max, Parsons & Hayward getting mini max's, then Lowry getting 12 and Stephenson getting 9... this offseason was so ****ed up. I mean, who's really to say that a player like Rondo (or Dragic, Faried, Leonard, Milsap) next offseason, they they are worth any less the Parsons or Hayward? Who's also to say that Bosh is worth more then them? Next offseason will be interesting.
