Which assets? It's a brilliant trade for the Rockets, but horrid for the Suns. Right, they're supposedly trading Dragic because of the PG logjam, and you're sending them back an incompatibly inferior player that plays the same position as him and big they don't need.
A big they don't need, eh? How can any sane basketballer look at PHX's front court and say they don't need a big?
Yeah, that's by far their biggest weakness. But what they need is a strong defensive presence at the C, to hold the paint and limit guard penetration, and a good, highly efficient stretch 4. Actually Asik would be perfect in this situation, but he's gone, and rockets don't have anything that would intrigue Phoenix in that regard. They've got enough front court projects of their own.
They had a good highly efficient stretch 4, and they let him go over a cpl million a year. Frye was their spacing....if they're really in a win now, and add tweaks here and there, it was a really odd thing to do (we're talking a 6-8 guy being offered 8 here).
Thy were living in their LeBron-Bosh pipe dream and told him to wait with the contract negotiations, but Orlando offered him a limited time contract and he of course took it. He was never getting something like that from anyone else.
Sometimes he is fun-loving, helpful good guy Rocket Carl Herrera. Other times he is angry villainous Spur Carl Herrera.
They've got a patch job at the 4 with Tolliver. Half the money and only for one year. So I think they did ok there. But they don't have a premier big. They need that guy...even if Alex Len is the guy down the road. They need a primary big.
My bad, I was speaking from memory. Even without that, there's always a chance that you'll lose that contract if you hesitate too long. And the suns wouldn't have moved until they were sure they had no chance with LeBron, and apparently Frye didn't want to wait.
http://www.latimes.com/sports/lakers/lakersnow/la-sp-ln-lakers-sign-jordan-hill-20140723-story.html Hill no longer a S&T option for the Lakers.
Contract offers most certainly do have irrevocable time periods at which point the contract can be void by the person offering
They do, but it's not done as a "i want to screw you" thing, it's done because the follow up moves need to be done. Orlando? no such thing, and they still have oodles of cap space. And then you have Frye talking about how taking a hometown discount is stupid, and the issue seems to be clearly about phoenix not willing to offer the same amount (or more? considering orlando is in a no state tax state)
The hold up is starting to get to me. I see no reason why Pheonix would hold out on the deals unless Houston is after a bigger dish. I wonder if we are waiting to see the situation with sterling to make a push for Chris Paul. Angry players with an organization usually means an exodus. Silly as it may sound I feel as if a fire sale is to happen very soon and we will reap from it. The insiders said timing was everything. I truly am hoping that ass Sterling ruins it so we may take advantage of a sour situation.
Paul wouldn't sit out, he cares about the money too much. And I couldn't even see LAC trading him if he held out. He's so valuable that k bet they would just hold on to him and try to expedite the sale or hope the situation blows over.
