By having a better fit at the 1 in place. Having the room back from what would have gone to him better utilized. That's all.
They're probably also bummed that David West signed with the Spurs for 1.4 vet minimum. Who needs 12M?
damnit with david west. they were looking at Boozer! Now all that remains is the cavs to get iso joe and we are set.
cyber should we expect to hear anything about smith soon? I mean before july 10? I don't know if Bird will look at him. They have nothing at pf but he is not their type of player.
I am lost on the Smith deal.. I know the Rockets were looking at West too. Must be bummed that both of their PF's are gone. It happens. Morey must be brewing something.. Always is.
The Rockets are poised to bring back pretty much all of their team last year, and its been 6 days without a formal offer coming to Josh Smith and KJ McDaniels. Yes, they are most likely disappointed with Sergio Llull, and slightly disappointed with LaMarcus (even though they admitted it was a long shot). But this off-season so far has gone EXACTLY as planned if not better (knowing that the Rockets actually got good value on the Bev/Brewer contracts). If the Rockets really are "burying their heads" with agents, and other front offices, its more than likely on purpose. They probably want to fly under the radar right now for various reasons. The longer this takes for Josh and KJ, more than likely the better contracts they will be able to get them back on. As for trades, who knows what they are sitting on, or what will come their way before training camp starts. The forgotten man, and someone who needs to have a big Summer is Nick Johnson. The Rockets never really saw what they had in him last year because of being in such a tight spot. He seems like the type of player who could have a TJones type of sophomore year as a solid role player in his second year after some rookie bumps & time in the D-League. But "Burying Their Heads" because the Rockets front office is upset and depressed... I just don't buy that. Maybe that's the message they are trying to send out, or they are just simply trying to lay low for FA negotiation purposes... but I doubt they are really that upset about their offseason since they probably have way more realistic expectations than the fans or the media.
I just can't see Bird and the Suns taking a chance on him after what they went through last year in their lockerooms. And then the Kings have nothing much to offer, and Portland has too many pfs and he's the most unjazzlike player ever. So the Jazz are out. I don't see where he may end up anymore. If Lakers didn't get Bass it would be easy to see him there.
Yes it is natural and I am sure they felt they had a punchers chance but they had to know that it was more likely than not that they would get Love or Aldridge. Kevin Love did not give them or anyone else a meeting and the Spurs could get Aldridge without a S&T, Aldridge's son lives in San Antonio and Pop spent multiple days with Aldridge... the writing was on the wall. The Strategy for the Rockets is simple, load up on a bunch of long shots (Marc Gasol (years ago), Howard, Anthony, Dragic, Bosh,Love); keep flexibility to try and get various long shots and hope you hit on some...... and the Rockets have had success with that, getting Harden and Howard..... still Morey had to know that it was a long shot this off season.
they went after mo but couldn't sign him because no $. Seriously it's an enigma where smith ends up. There are a few pfs that will be traded in the following days but Indy can't trade for anyone atm because it lacks the contracts and they have nothing to spare. Nene, David Lee, Taj Gibson, MacBob.
The only reason to be dissapointed I can imagine would be that they can't get through Sacramento's bonehead to get them to trade them Collison. But don't worry a trade is coming. That's 100% certain.
I think the Clippers could take a flyer on him. They have 0 big men not named Blake Griffin that are quality and can play heavy minutes. Having Smith back him up seems like a positive for them. Doubt he'd go there though.
