The answer to your question was in the post you were quoting. The ROOM EXCEPTION. It's $2.8 million this year. Up to two years in length.
Your statement is ridiculous. Mo Williams will add depth to our weakest position. We aren't going anywhere with Prigioni/Terry as our backup point guard. When Prigioni was on the floor I felt like we were playing 4 on 5, because the opposing PG didn't really have to guard him. Mo is a scoring threat, he just scored 50 last year which shows that he still has plenty left in the tank. He's also a good playmaker, averaged >4 asts in Portland and >7.5 asts when he was starting in Charlotte. So if we can get him cheap for like ~3M, he will be a great upgrade for our PG position. I don't know why you're so high on KJ. He has potential. But our wing position is loaded and it is very likely that he won't see minutes next year.
and just as you have done so in your posts, others have a right to criticize and ridicule yours.....which seems warranted....
It's the economics of summer 2015: Nowadays, every summer many teams have cap room due to shorter contracts. This summer in particular, teams that have cap room are unusually willing to use them if they can lock up a player at a good price before the cap goes up in 2016 instead of trying to preserve flexibility for the future. Going the "cap room" route would have cost the Rockets most of their own free agents and more. It was an option when chasing an elite guy like LaMarcus but not so much for a Bellinelli or Cory Joseph or whoever. So, the Rockets really would have had a hard time competing for these guys' services. Hell, even using the MLE would have cost the Rockets KJ McDaniels, so whoever they offer all or most of the MLE to better be worth it. The only way the Rockets could have paid a player > MLE money is through a sign and trade or a regular trade with some of their non-guaranteed players and contracts. I am guessing Morey is still exploring these possibilities, but want to make sure he gets the best value out of his assets if he trades them.
I think it would be better to wait and see what Morey does instead of getting mad that he didn't sign Mo Williams of all people. Morey operates by thinking about how a potential move could impact several future moves.
Why are you so hell bent on finding a PG on the FA market? Do you understand the plan has always been through using the MLE or by trade?
General comment: I find it laughable that so many posters here (who, like the rest of us, have NO IDEA what NBA front offices are discussing internally and with each other) can't see more than three feet in front of them what their favorite NBA team can/should do with its roster, while at the same time insisting that their team is somehow being poorly managed for not having done "X" within the first few days of the new season (even as the July Moratorium is still going on). Carry on the discussion, ladies and gentlemen. Carry on.
If you disagree with my opinion, feel free to respond with a list of your own. But don't tell me to stop posting because I am allowed to post my views.
Lol read your post again. Mo Williams is not any better than Jet or Priogrioni for crying out loud. Scoring 50? If he was all that why arent teams who need help at pg beating down a path to his door? OMG 50 pt scorer can be had for only 2.5M!!!! But now its halfway through the offseason and nobody still gives a **** a out ******* Mo Williams. Do you think you're smarter than the NBA's entire FO put together? How come you can see this great STEAL and nobody has given Mo the time of day?
Pretty much why I've avoided all discussions recently. Randomly saw a Bima "last post" note on this thread so I checked back in. Pretty frustrating/annoying. As if we don't trade for Ty Lawson by July 9th we're destined for eternal, never-ending mediocrity. Give me a break.
I find it even more curious how so many fans just have these imaginary trades all lined up and other GMs are in such a hurry to do business with Morey. I wont be the least bit surprised if this isnt the team that goes into the season as-is, and if upgrades need to be made, wont happen until the trade deadline. Bad thing? Not for me.
Don't get it twisted, I just said that it would be better if your opinion was better. By all means, panic and suggest firing the best GM in basketball because he's not doing what you think he should be doing. I mean, people will think that your opinion is bad and that you should feel bad, but don't let that stop you.
