Kobe is retiring after next season. I am not advocating players going to LA, but Kobe contract will come off the books after next year.
"Keeping the core together" sounds like retaining assets for a mid-season trade to me. Guys like Melo & KD could become available. Another situation to keep an eye on is Marcus Smart in Boston. Ainge threw his name around A LOT in offers during the draft. If he can be had for T-Jones, K-Pap, Dorsey, and a pick, I definetly think Morey pulls the trigger. Smart's contract would hinder us from making a mid-season trade..
Exactly. I mean, if he went to the spurs, I wouldn't be that mad because that is smart. Going to the lakers and having to wait for next year to be good is so dumb. Going to the mavs for the same reasons is equally dumb. I understand I have the homer glasses on, but it should be us or if not the spurs. Seems like a pretty easy decision.
I agree is should be us or the Spurs. I sometimes have homer glasses on but, in this situation I will take it them off. I still have us above the Spurs, because of Duncan, Giniobli, and Parker retiring soon. Pop will retire when those players retire. I have already stated my view on Spurs view. I am going to just wait and see in the next couple of weeks where LMA goes.
Randall for a 5, Voila! But - - if LMA is so upset with perceived issues with franchise's treatment of Dame then LMA should be SAS or bust. IMO, that is. Of course.
During the draft, looking to move up for a high pick/high potential guy. I doubt they trade Smart for Houston's spare parts.
Because...? I'll believe Kobe retires when he is not suiting up. And with his physical breakdowns might that be Christmas? Or might he survive the season and reup for (yet) another year? If Kupchak reportedly doesn't know then why should I? Or even you???
Agreed. Yet, is Danny following the PHX blueprint of too many 1s? In C's case too many who are undersized and/or cannot shoot the rock? Is Bradley odd-man out? If so, there would be a good fit IMO. But, since AB plays off the ball a lot I don't see him out. Nor IT. Therefore, is Smart destined for the elusive big or shooter or really big-time trade?
Fine, we don't know if Kobe will retire. In that case, LA makes no sense because they will not attract any stars then because of not knowing about Kobe. Who wants to play with Kobe right know, he is a shell of himself.
I think melo will eventually become available. KD probably won't until next offseason (not attacking I know you said could). We just have to pray that KD and the thunder really struggle this season.
From what I've read, and that's all I know, LMA's issue in Po'land revolve around Dame. The way the team treats him, the way the team defines him. Thus, Aldridge wants out. So I've read. Pop, in SA, seems to treat all his stars alike - - just like any team member. LMA wouldn't have the op to take offense as well as being close (enough) to home. In short, Spurs under Pop deemotionalize, dedramatize the type feelings supposedly that have led LMA to this crossroads.
The only way the Thunder struggle is if KD has foot problems again. In that case, I will pass on him. We don't want to go down that road again.
Pop is not young you know. I am sure when the core of Duncan, Giniobli, and Parker retire he will retire.
Selling high... makes sense. The picks were more attracting to teams.. They offered 6 picks to Charlotte! They took Rozier... another point guard... There PG rotation is Smart/IT/Rozier/Pressey They're trying to acquire Lawson. Morey won't take IT because of his contract. It would prevent him from making a potential deadline deal for KD or Melo (that's if either are truly ever going to be available). If we can get Philly involved and do: Gerald Wallace to Philly. Smart to Houston. Jones/K-Pap/Dorsey/rights to Euroleague-er to Boston. This would be something that would get Danny Ainge's attention. He's been looking to dump Wallace for a few years now..
To recap cyberx's thoughts, the Lakers are close to fielding a Rondo/Kobe/Durant/Aldridge/Boogie lineup with Love coming off the bench if the Lakers feel like it.
