That's a lot of words and numbers, but they don't actually support this conclusion. For instance, if Minnesota had shot 40% the last 4 years, that's only 1.4 more makes a game. That would bring Rubio from 8.2 to 8.9 assist, if you gave him credit for assisting on 1/2 of them.
He'll defend His crush Rubio all day. Doesn't really matter to me anymore because his play doesn't support anything bbhallic tries to sell. Rubio is still mediocre at best and can't shoot. Not a winning pg and overrated by him on defense. Rubio play says it all not paragraphs of nonsense
Rubio is a dinosaur of an NBA player with a huge contract. Wings that cannot shoot put a millstone around the neck of NBA offenses. Defenses no longer even bother to guard them outside the paint, forcing the offense to play 4 on 5. If a player is deficient on talent how can he earn the most money possible in today's NBA? By being a PF that can hit 38% of their threes. Stretch fours are incredibly expensive. $8M - $12M without even being an average defender. Stretch fives, because of Green's influence, are going to become an even more valuable commodity, especially those that can offer paint protection (hello Morey, are you preparing to offer D-Mo $13M/year this summer, because next summer he is going to be $18M/year). Porzingis, not near the athlete that D-Mo is, is being projected into the top four in this years draft solely because he is probably capable of handling the 4 and hitting 38% of his threes. Green is going to get a max contract simply because he can protect the paint and hit 33.7% of his threes. Well that and he is a switching NBA defenses wet dream. Ryan Anderson is earning $8.4M despite being a bottom 70 NBA defensive player.
$100 tipjar bet and also permaban me from Clutchfans if the Rockets acquire Ricky Rubio between now and next year's trade deadline.
That seems reasonable. Maybe adding #32 to #18 gets you another 2-3spots.....TJones another 1-2. My guess is we value that #32 pick more than moving up just a few slots. Imagine if a KJ McDaniels level player is available at #32......would you really pass that opportunity up to move up a few spots in the middle of the 1st? Speaking of KJ, I'm really wary of just letting him walk. I know we need the MLE to sign Llull, but won't feel too bad if we can't get Sergio this summer. There should be enough room in the MLE to sign KJ, Gentile, and the #32 pick.
Same here because we wouldn't lose out on a potentially great asset, but getting Llull just makes us better. I just can't get the trade, yes I know it was insurance but it seems like a complete waste especially when we saw a player of Brewer's caliber go for a similar trade package. We could have used those assets instead of getting an actual 3 point shooter (mind blowing we take so many threes and Morey fails to ever acquire an actually good three point shooter).
Does anyone else find it funny that the people that use the phrase "In my humble opinion" more than anyone almost never have humble opinions? Its almost as oxymoron as when someone say "No offense but...." and then almost always says something that should be taken offensively. Some people here are funny. What has the internet done to our world. anyways... back to basketball. ............ How much you guys want to bet (tipjar bets... sure why not) that the player taken at #32 actually has a more productive (higher PPG, more minutes) than the player taken at #18?
I do not believe Morey acquired KJ just to let him walk. The three rookies Morey added to the roster, Capela, KJ and Nick are all upper echelon NBA athletes. Top 15%. It looks to me like Morey has decided that McHale and the coaching staff can teach basketball skills and the most important thing is to add great athletes. You can't teach height and you cannot make a player a better athlete. Everything else is learnable.
I agree about KJ. I don't think he makes that deal unless he's done the homework to think that its at the very least ... probable they can bring him back... and that's assuming along with other high priority moves being made first or in conjunction. I still think Morey finds a way to bring him back at least by way of a one-year qualifying offer type of situation.
If you had to choose between bringing Brewer back (whose game we already know and ceiling has been reached) or KJ back (whose game we really don't know a lot about but the ceiling is definitely higher) who would you go with? I'd pick the latter and hope for the best.
Capela is special, KJ may have unpolished talent, but Johnson should be a goner in any trades. Except for a play here and there, Johnson has been nothing but a disappointment. Undersized 2 who can't shoot and can't create are worth nothing.
Isn't Brewer covered by early Bird rights? Cannot the Rockets just exceed the cap and sign him this summer without any repercussions other than perhaps the tax? KJ on the other hand is a more difficult case. My understanding is that the Rockets can offer him about, approximately $1.3M/year without dipping into the MLE. Please correct me if I am wrong.
.....and what happens if you take Minnesota's 2-point shooting percentage from 7th worst to 10th best???? #'s work. Rubio has the ability to average double-digit assists, 2 steals, and 5 rebounds on a team of good shooters.
That's tough. In previous years Morey would pick KJ all day every day, but that was a different Rockets team that had different objectives. This Summer I have no idea. Brewer represents a given for the Rockets. He's going to give you several regular season wins by doing what he does alone for the Rockets. Seeing this season how important regular season playoff seeding is (the Rockets wouldn't have advanced most likely in the 2nd round without home court in game 7), I'd say a player like Corey Brewer is actually pretty important to getting the Rockets where they need to be in the regular season to setup a solid playoff run. However, with KJ I mean there is a ton of talent there that could represent a key piece to the future for you. He's also got elite perimeter defensive potential, and more potential for play-making that someone like Ariza and Brewer could never get to. So I really dont know, but my guess is that Morey has a way in mind to keep both guys. Either that or Brewer exceeded even Morey's expectations enough this season to where he thought Brewer was a rental and showed more long term value. My guess though is he will try to keep both Brewer, KJ, and Smith too. Smith seems like the most likely to get a larger early offer and the Rockets opt to let him walk, but that's just a guess. With all three players it really just comes down to what offers they get from other teams which we can't predict. If it was MY CHOICE.... damn. I'd have to say role the dice with KJ if it really was a choice. But it doesn't sound like that's the end choice. Since its probably going to be MLE money used, I'd say the choice is really if you want to use MLE money on KJ, or Llull, or someone else. Brewer probably gets resigned first using early bird rights, and then you have limited options with the MLE.
You're probably right. It was a hypothetical as I see that KJ can and should get the minutes Brewer will get if Morey sees any potential in Daniels.
Why are we STILL talking about Rubio a year later? Cyber- If Rubio really is some insider Morey target please let us know that this conversation has some value. If not than can we please either move to the Random Trade Thread or create a Rubio dream target thread for that purpose only? I do enjoy this thread for Cyberx updates and points of discussion surrounding the rumors he's hearing but it continues to get bogged down with random fan fantasy trades and targets.
You're giving up on Johnson too quickly. If he adds a reliable jumper then he's a rotation player. It would not surprise me if he put a ton of time into his J this summer and comes into the season as an almost average 3 point shooter. He is a 2 guard, and shouldn't be evaluated as a PG. He should be driving the lane, throwing down lobs, and shooting open 3s. He does not need to create to be effective......he does need to be able to shoot though.
I think it's $1.05 million. Per Bima, any amount over that and the entire salary counts against the MLE. That makes it really difficult to sign LLull and keep KJ.
