I'm with you on that $4 million figure. Although I would consider overpaying him somewhat this next season in exchange for a trade-able non-guaranteed second season. He did significantly outperform his initial contract so I have no problem overpaying him for this upcoming season...if we're not going to clear cap to sign a major free agent.
But then again you did say he'll be the best pg to come out that years draft lol. Another false belief
I had him and Curry together at the top. I had both of them over Tyreke Evans, Johnny What's his name (done forgot) and all the other points. They are the best point guards in that class. And Rubio is still going up. He's going to have a great career. You can believe he's not the best defensive point if you want to. But being unwilling to say who is better than he is...and just run...is a copout.
I could probably find a better one if I looked hard enough, but yes Rubio is an elite defender capable of guarding all 1's and 2's.
Rubio is one of the better defenders in the NBA at the 1 or the 2. People love to talk smack about Rubio and say he sucks because he can't shoot worth a lick. But they completely overlook the rest of his game. He is a really good player. Is he a good fit next to Harden? That's debatable but let's not discredit his skills because you don't like the guy. He's what 24? Shooting can be easily fixed his playmaking, defense and intangibles can't be taught.
i know i'm not supposed to base everything off one play but when i think of rubio defending i think of him getting crossed by james harden lol
The main reason I would rather have other point guards over Rubio isn't his shooting, which isn't great, is the fact that he has only played 82 once in his career. In all the other seasons he hasn't gotten past 57 games played, I don't want another injury prone point guard.
Rondo and rubio can work. We can score with anybody. We need.... A pg that can handle the ball a pg that can pass and play in transition a pg that can defend elite pgs in thr NBA a pg that can average 12-15 points a game. I prefer Rondo, if he wasn't a head case.
If you get Rubio, then you need a true stretch 4. Having a PG that can shoot the three means you don't have to go stretch 4 all the time. It's about having shooters and adding Rubio still leaves you deficient in that area and would cause you to burn too many assets to make up the shooting in other areas like the 4 spot.
How about: A PG that can shoot free throws. a PG that can shoot the three. a PG that doesn't need the ball in his hands to be effective ( shoot the three) a PG that listens to his coach
