The thing with a sign and trade with Portland is they really need players. They could legitimately lose everyone in their 8 man rotation except Lilliard and Batum. Aldrige, Lopez, and Matthews are UFA's. Affalo has a player option for $7.75M. They are going to need quality players to replace some of those guys and maybe some draft picks to help rebuild around Lilliard.
Did he not already say this is exactly what he is doing? Also, For people who make the "he has made enough money, so he's going to take a discount to live in his home state (don't forget about the taxes!)" argument, you're insane. Why Would anyone voluntarily limit their earning potential in their prime? Would you ever voluntarily take a paycut? It's all relative.
Agreed. Depth is more valuable. I don't want LMA either. D-Mo and TJ at their ages are better value anyway. We just need Llull or another PG upgrade another shooter - and we'll repeat.
For real. I probably wouldn't pay him a max. I know Morey is in win now mode but keeping young star players like Jones(Stephan a smith and espn have talked a lot about him lately), Capella if he can make that next jump to grown man on the court(I know he's 20). If I'm chasing a star and giving out a max I'm going for someone younger who can build with harden. Morey needs to start setting up a Parker/Duncan/ginob tru for harden Smith and dwight are solid for another 5 years probably before we start questioning them highly, but that gives jones and Capella time to develops with them as role models. Jones and Capella would be entering there primes If we trade it should be DMo. Ya he's got footwork but honestly he's just a p***y when it comes to getting boards and being aggressive. Jones and smith get more boards and don't get bullied around
It would probably take Ariza, Papa & 2 of Tj, Dmo & Capelo and Dorsey elsewhere to get LA & Scola. That means that bigs ft% wise, we would loose 3 of 17%, 27%, 61%, & 60% while getting LA(80%) & Scola(75%). Ariza(85%) & Papa(72%) would hurt though. On a side note, would LA wear #1 at home & #2 on the road so Howard can keep #12? Barkley did that for Dream. On a negative note, info like this during the playoffs won't do anything for team chemistry.
Good job illustrating the difference in waiting a year for the 2016 free agent money bonanza. Now to the next step. If Portland sees LaMarcus is leaving, they'll take a sign-and-trade as long as they get some young talent/picks and don't have to take back cap clogging contacts. So here you go: $4,797,664 (Kostas) $2,489,530 (Jones) $2,000,000 (Beverley signed to a modest $4 million starting salary) $1,734,572 (Prigioni) $1,015,421 (Dorsey) $1,242,720 (Capela) $5,000,000 (trade rule) + ________________________________________ $18,279,907 There's just a sample of how much salary we can put together to get LaMarcus or Love or possibly even Marc Gasol or somebody else while retaining birds rights on Brewer and not having to worry about clearing cap space to re-sign LaMarcus or whoever.
pick 18 is it?, can also be traded at his salary value a month after signing depending on what terry is doing, we could conceivably sign and trade him with $$$, then he just retires, i have no idea how the nba looks at that though
LMA isn't sounding to good to me....we lose depth, playoff experience and possibly get off to a rough start because of the changes and there's no guarantee it works better than tweaking the current roster. What if we get Lull and a better shooting PF/C? If LMA leaves Portland elsewhere, could we grab Leonard in a deal centered around TJ or Dmo?
I'm conflicted on LMA. He's a no brainer as far as what he brings, but it looks like we'd have to sacrifice too much. I'd rather concentrate on an upgrade at the PG position.
