That 5th year means a whole lot to Goran anyone who says otherwise is just deluding themselves. This is a player who has played on small or very reasonable contracts his entire career all of a sudden willing to leave MAX dollars to go play in LA or NY where the supposed pull of either of those places are "potential earning ability outside of basketball?"

Lets just look at it like this he would have to earn at least 28M over the course of 4 years to justify leaving thats 7M per season on average.

Chris Paul
Pau Gasol
Russell Westbrook

I remember reading his agent thought being an international player in a big market would net him big $. Gasol would probably be the most similar person to look at and he made 3M in endorsements playing for the Lakers.

Unless there is some sort of crazy shoe deal he is able to sign (like how Amare signed a 6-7 year deal with Nike his first season in NY or Rose's deal with ADIDAS) he isn't going to see 7M a year from endorsements from either of those two cities.

And of course this isn't including the ridiculous amounts of tax he would have to pay in Cali and NY further reducing his actual disposable income.

I'll donate 28 bucks to the tip jar if Dragic leaves 28M on the table to go play in NY or LA -- doesn't matter what team he is on Friday - if he leaves that team to go play in any of these supposed destinations. (caveat being if he is traded to LA/NY tomorrow then bets are off)

What would you guys think of a 3 team trade between the Rockets, Bucks and Nuggets?

Bucks Out: Knight (3.6M)
In: Lawson (11.6M), Terry (5.9M)

Nuggets Out: Lawson (11.6M), McGee (11.3M)
In: Jones (1.6M), Pap (4.8M), NOP pick

Rockets Out: Jones (1.6M), Pap (4.8M) or Shved (3.3M), Terry (5.9M), NOP pick
In: Knight (3.6M), McGee (11.3M)

Bucks do it because they get a point guard with contract security. Terry is used to balance out salaries but he also has ties with Kidd so I could see that working out.

Nuggets probably don't do it unless McGee is taken out of their hands, but they also get young players in Pap (or Shved as an expiring) and Jones, plus the NOP pick. Big thing here is that McGee is taken off their hands, something they have been reported to be looking for. Getting Pap and Jones might allow them to trade Wilson/Faried.

With this move, the Rockets solve two problems: a starting caliber point guard that can play well with Harden and be a secondary playmaker and also find a solution at back-up center in McGee. McGee is a headache but he is a shot-blocker, therefore exponentially better than Dorsey. McGee's contract also ends in 2016. Maybe we could also snag Dudley from the Bucks if we trade Shved and Pap..

Rotation could be:
Knight / Bev
Harden / Brewer
Ariza / Dudley
DMo / Smith
Howard / McGee

In my opinion, that's a championship roster.

It is a championship roster in my mind, but I don't think Nuggets would do that trade. Lawson is too good to let go for a late lottery pick and Terrence Jones. They would ask for a D-Mo caliber player I would think.

You make a lot of sense in your analysis, but maybe Dragic knows that doesn't need to make 28 million to live a good life on Earth? He could simply be content with what he has, and I understand that most NBA players (especially role players) will go wherever they can make the most money, like Parsons for example, but there can always be exceptions.

I think Dragic really cares about being the main ball handler on a big market team, like LA, NY or Miami. I would love to work in one of those cities for a few years, so I can't blame him for wanting to do the same. He still gets paid tens of millions of dollars either way.

We are all assuming that teams like DMo as much as we do. It might not be matter of him not being available, just some teams aren't as interested. It takes two to tango and maybe our collection of assets doesn't really spark that much interest.

I dont understand why Dragic isn't getting panned more (a la Dwight) for how he's handling is departure. At least Orlando got some nice pieces out of it. Dragic's 2 day notice and the list are leaving the Suns in the best position.
