Just because desperate teams are willing to overpay guys doesn't mean that at the end of the day their contracts aren't bad. There are overpaid guys all over the league and we laugh at the team and the dumb GMs that handed them the money. The Rockets have been guilty of a few overpays over the years. Kelvin Cato comes immediately to mind. Dragic on a max deal WILL be a bad contract when it's all said and done unless his team wins a championship. He is good, but he isn't THAT good.
I wonder what teams will do when the only current low post threat to score (Dmo) isn't on the team anymore!?
You say that so confidently, but they consider Bledsoe the better player. (He's untouchable unless its a superstar) He was the last hold out this summer because they didnt want to pay him and you think they are willing to just PAY Dragic similar money? I think this is apart of negotiating, by giving the impression that IT is available while making it seem Dragic will be TOO hard to give up, which will drive up his market. They want a 1st rounder and TJONES or DMo and I don't think DM has neither on the block. I'm think Morey has that NOH Pick, Capela and Canaan as bait and PHX wants Dmo or Jones. IMO
I'm sorry but Dwights personality and ..character makes the situation with him and Dragic much different. If Dragic problem is just IT and the Suns are willing to pay him the max then he is pretty happy. I think tbh that even this meeting today is mostly done to raise his value and put Morey in the corner. Maybe my optimism comes from my excitement to see the duo on the court.
It's funny. At the start of the season we had such low expectations for Dmo. I think if Morey could have played out his best possible scenarios for DMo at the start of the season, one of them would be that DMo progressed enough to be an asset that is attractive enough to persuade a team to part with a star, all-NBA level player. Now there's a question as to whether DMo is nearly off the block. If you don't use DMo for Goran Dragic, who do you use him for?
Lakers NY and permitting the capspace Miami. Please prepare yourself because the cap landscape has changed and the sums have gotten absurd.
Rockets would be so royally screwed without Dmo as long as Howard is out! Even with Dragic and Harden on the perimeter they wouldn't be worried about anyone down on the post teams would play so much help defense! It's counter productive to add Dmo to that trade! Jones can go tho! We have survived without him...
I honestly don't think no one is gonna pay dragic the max. He will get more than bledsoe and lowry but not the max. Only one team has said they will pay him that much(Lakers). I know it only takes one team but its obvious they are bluffing. Most teams in the NBA have Great point guards. We may end up paying Dragic 15-17 mil a year.
Maybe some fans did, but not all of them, and certainly not the team. You don't trade a young 7 foot tall two way PF for an aging PG. You ask what you use DMo for? You use him as your starting PF for the next decade.
We will see what happens. I'm a big fan of Morey and what he can do so maybe he manages to commit some robbery and suprises us all.
We did that when we traded Lowry away for the 1st round pick that was one of the assets that got us James Harden. What PHX fails to reckon with is that DM has a Plan B and C in the works. It's very hard to outnegotiate him.
I'm already prepared for that. The going rates for mediocre to good players has sky rocketed exponentially. We all saw the contracts handed out this past off season to the Jodie Meeks, Channing Frye, and Ben Gordans of the world. Doesn't change the fact that as of right now, 15 million for Parsons is preposterous and 20 million for Dragic is as well. Oh well, not my money. That is something for Morey and his minions to figure out and worry about. If the Rockets are trying to trade for him, they bust indeed be willing to pony up and pay him market value.
