    Another CyberBOMB!!! :eek::eek::eek:

    Morey 'believes' in Shved?

As in... he's more confident in his ability to flip Shved + NOP 1st + fillers for (name withheld) in PHX?

Has Shved been discussed with McDonough?

Morey actually does have some leverage even under the circumstances.

First, just cutting a player isn't that bad of an option-- as Bima points out, Tarik Black only counts a rather minimal amount against the cap even if he goes unclaimed in waiver. Also, there is a good chance that a team in need of an extra big body claiming Black off waivers given that he's on a minimal and only partially guaranteed deal.

Second, if a team wants one of the guys on Stein's list, they can't just wait for Morey to cut him-- Morey has to cut only 1 guy and the guy gets cut may not be the one you want. What does Morey cutting Tarik Black do for a team wanting Nick Johnson, for example? And even if you want Tarik Black and Morey cuts Tarik Black, there is still a good chance your team can't get him. There is a good chance that somebody just claims his small contract off waivers (like the Rockets and later Knicks did with Jeremy Lin when he got waived by the Warriors and later the Rockets). And even if he clear waivers, Black is still a FREE agent, FREE to go where he chooses. So if you want Black on your team, you still gotta trade for him to be sure that you have him.

    Morey & McHale.

In his last radio interview McHale talked up Shved's abilities as a playmaker, running PnR, throwing something like 4 amazing passes in practice... Kind of suggested Shved might be the guy who will finally allow Harden to rest during games.

Of course he is. So is Capela. Its just that different players have different valuations to Morey as they should. Morey is far from just trying to "dump" anyone. Sure Canaan is "available" since he's not going to be playing much if everyone is healthy, but that doesn't mean he's going to go for nothing, or that Morey would expect to get for Dorsey or Black.

The fact is, the Rockets have to make a roster spot. I have no problem with Morey gauging the market for players...well..... that will NOT be playing the next few months without major injuries on the roster. He's doing his due diligence, and ultimately would probably be doing that player a favor if they can get an opportunity to play a large role elsewhere.

No freebies from Hinkie. He's squeezed blood from a stone whenever the Rockets have dealt with him so far.

Capela is exactly the type of player Hinkie has been trying to acquire with all those picks. More than likely Morey wants at least two 2nd rounders or a late first for him though.

More than likely though, the Sixers are going to have to take a big with their top 5 pick they get in June so I dunno, but if Capela is on the market for multiple 2nd rounders, and I'm Hinkie, I jump on that.

I think Capella for a second rounder is fair value. We don't have the patience to develop him, Hinkie does. Embid, Noel and Capella could really be a lock down front court next season.

Hinkie took Royce White from us. if Morey needs some help, he'll help.

While this is all true, I'm not sure where I see the leverage AFTER the Smith announcement.

The only conclusion I can come to is that Morey is now willing to go all in for Dragic (or someone of his stature) because Smith has committed to Houston.

Maybe there were teams that were interested in Canaan, Capela, and Johnson before Smith's acquisition, but now that he's made his decision how does this create leverage for Morey?

    I suppose that's what I'm missing here.

hmmm, this post made me think and wonder if Morey placing these guys out there on the trading block is him creating a market to establish higher value in these guys (and in turn leverage PHX to the table). If PHX knows HOU is willing to part with some of these player but is opening up the market to other team, it might pressure PHX to deal sooner than later before players like Cappela and Canaan or taken.

Not sure how the NBA market works, but just conjecturing since the thought intrigued me.

As I said in earlier post, I have watched Shved play for Timberwolves.

He looks like he has the skill sets to be a very good player. He has size and the play-making ability and has the quality of being annoying to his opponents without even trying.

He needs to find a hair dresser though. No matter what time of the day, he always looks like he just got off the bed.

There's a method to the madness. He also gets to roll the tide out and see who is wanting his guys and what they're willing to pay.
