Everyone is commenting about the offensive problems that Smith has. I look at how he can help defensively. Rebounding, blocking shots, someone who can play EXCELLENT defence on ANY 4, small ball 4, big 3, stretch 4, bully ball 4, all of them he can defend without allowing the offense to create mismatches. Playing GS and needs to guard Green, no problem. Playing Portland and need him to guard Aldridge, no problem. Playing the Cavs and need him to guard Lebron, OK. Offense he will be a garbage player, with perhaps a few post ups. Also, don't discredit Dwight's happiness at this acquisition.
I think far to many people have bought into the importance of shooting. Don't get me wrong it's very important, but too many people seem to be of the belief that if you can shoot, you're a good player, if you can't shoot you're a bad player. He is gonna have to reign in his poor perimeter shots, but I think his ability to finish around the rim will still make him a positive offensive player. Defensively this team is gonna be a nightmare.
