I don't really see this as a very good fit. he is slow, nailed to the ground and plays zero d.
we still need to find minutes for hayes off the bench, and no way does cwebb deserve starters minutes or solve our need for a shotblocker/rebounder next to yao.

I think the PF situation will be alot clearer on draft day. if we are going to make a splash for a PF through trade, the #26 pick will most likely be included, so we will be drafting for our trade partner. otherwise chances are we are going to be looking at the 4 position. personally I am of the opinion something is already in the works and that our pick is a trading chip.

Here is the list of FA's again:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2654216

Sign CWebb for the Vet's minimum. And then use some of the MLE money (if not all) to Kapono or even Mo Pete or and we are set. There are no other options in FA for a big who will fit our system. We'd have to go after him in a Trade or Draft.

Don't take webb even if he is free. He's the biggest choker and loser.

I hope everyone watched all the blown defensive assignments by webber in detroit playoffs. I think he's a 20min guy off the bench at his best. He's terrible defensively and also a area rebounder like yao. Much rather use money somewhere else.

But what is there to lose by signing him to a vet minimum if we can? Beggers can't be choosers.

Isn't that what hayes is for? Was Juwan a stopper? I look at cweb as a Juwan upgrade.

Only if he agrees to come off the bench, Hayes is better compliment for Yao. And if Yao isnt in foul trouble come crunch time C-webb can stay on the floor.

the only PF from detroit the rockets should be targeting is antonio mcdyess...great defender, excellent mid-range jump-shooter...rebounding, blocking, athleticism and toughness...i'd trade battier to detroit for him or give him the full MLE if he's a free agent...battier's from detroit anyways...im a huge webber fan, ever since his freshman year at UM, but seriously, this guy's pretty much done...there's a reason he was on the bench in crunch time for detroit...he was talking about retiring not too long ago...altho it's odd that the rockets always hafta have a michigan man on the roster...Rudy T, Mo Taylor, Glen Rice, Juwan Howard...

remember a few years ago when we were all hoping he'd come play with cat and stevie?? my things have changed

i would welcome webber, an experienced veteran and a smart player...defensively yeah he is not what he was because of the surgery but he is still not a bad player and in limited minutes (20-25) he can be very effective. signing him for the LLE or vet min imo would be a great bargain

I thought i heard him saying he would retire after this season anyway?

I will just say this about Webber.....

Remember how we always complain about Juwan Howard being too slow?

    Webber is SLOWER!

I'd rather have someone younger and a little more hungry. Webber's in the twilight of his career and appears unmotivated.

Man, I'd LOVE to get Mcdyess, but it's possible he may still be mad at us after the way we treated him in the '98 offseason.

I think McDyess has a player option for the last year of his MLE deal. My guess would be that he exercises his option and stays with Detroit. On the other hand, he may opt out to take a multi-year deal while his stock is still high. Playing all 82 games last year really helps his cause.

Let's take it one step further. The Pistons' other starters are all quicker and more athletic than their Rocket counterparts. They were able to hide Webber on defense in the East. Won't happenb in the West. Corliss Willamson makes more sense for a vet min. Heck, even McDyess if we've set the target as roster filler.

you can't possibly be suggesting williamson as a viable option for big rotational minutes...he was stapled to the bench behind kenny thomas and SAR in sacramento...yes you read that right.

at best he would be a luxury as 3rd string PF behind chuck and the incumbent PF yet to join the team. but at LLE money.

...and honestly that LLE money could be put to better use elsewhere. i.e. our backcourt, which still has alot of question marks...

for as much griping about our PF as goes on, behind yao we can get away with alot, because all we are asking them to do is be a rebounder and defender. offensively they can be very limited.

How about PJ Brown? Even though he's a little old, he can hit that 8-12 feet jumper and can rebound. He'd fit with JVG's style and not Aldeman's though. He can backup Yao and a PF and has more flexibiity than Deke because can can play the 4 and 5.
