Nocioni is undersized and supposedly undervalued becasue of a long term injury. http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/newssun/sports/449126,5_2_WA29_BULLIES_S1.article If his value has indeed dipped that would make a clear cut "moneyball" player. He was a PF last season. To Chi: Sura+Snyder+Lucas+2008 1st pick for S&T Nocioni To Bobcats: Alston for Herrmann James Spanoulis Brooks McGrady Bonzi Head Battier Nocioni Reed Herrmann Landry Novak Yao Hayes Deke
I heard a clip of Morey yesterday on 610 where he said they will be going after a couple of bigger names to start free agency but he thought they were long shots. Said, if neither guy pans out, then they have fall back options. Made me wonder who those first guy are - Darko, Varejo, Rashard? And "ugh!" to Webber. Obviously his skill set fits into Adelman's half-court offense but he is ancient and not anywhere the same player he was even just a couple of seasons ago.
alston for herrmann? herrmann is a beast. it'll probably take more than that; maybe head and something else.
Bobcats have got eight PF & C, five are PF. Herrmann isn't even a second string player for them. They've got absolutely no PG to backup Felton since they've waived Knight who was injury prone anyway. Alston is what he is, a starting PG in the WC for a playoff team with a manageable contract that is below the MLE.
oh please. if you've read my posts, i'm totally against trading rafer because we need alston and james together as a tandem. rafer is a terrific ball handler and good passer. but if i'm not mistaken, they have raymond felton starting over there and they just cut brevin knight. knight some argue is equal or better than alston. why would the bobcats want a similar player to a player they just cut. perhaps my wording was a bit misleading, but head provides a different kind of player (a shooter) than rafer does and it's something i think the bobcats would value more. and herrmann IS an absolute beast; the dude is 6'9" so he could perhaps fit in as our pf.
herrmann not a second string player...? he will be competing for a starting job if they do not resign gerald wallace. also, check his stats for the last couple games of last season. i think that head being a shooter would complement felton better as he is more of a player like rafer (passer/handler). also, i just kind of want to get rid of head because he's not a pg or a sg.
Knight has never had a fully healthy season in Charlotte and that affected their team chemistry throughout the season. He only played 45 games last season. He also had a partially guaranteed contract in his last year similiar to Sura's and the B-Cats just took the opportunity to limit their losses. 17 games is promising, but not proven, he's a gamble.
i agree, he isn't proven, but 17 games isn't just a few games. it's a pretty decent sample and he was very, very good in those games. i agree about knight; alston is much more reliable in terms of not being injured. i'd rather trade luther, though.
My 2 cents' worth: Webber is an absolute no-no. IF we do get him, then it's fairly certain to say that Morey doesn't know a lick. But since he's a moneyball kinda guy, I doubt we'll be getting Webber. I think his +/- and overall efficiency is just rock-bottom now. Dude can't guard an 80-year-old grandpa, much less anyone not named Dikembe Mutombo in the NBA. I'm also against trading Alston. Fact is, with Mike James on board, our PG spot is set for a couple of years at least. James and Alston are complementary players who'll give teams different looks. Hermann is good, and like what y'all said, we COULD move Luther to get him. Since Mike James can cover Luther's role if and when needed, with the glut of guards we have. Between Hermann and Varejao or even Rashard Lewis, I'd take Hermann, then Varejao, then Lewis, just for the fact that Hermann can at least put the ball in the bucket when the opportunity allows him to, compared to flopping Varejao. And Lewis? He can score, but that's about it. We don't need another softie on the team.
i wouldnt mind a rafer for shelden williams trade...he's like chuck except 6'9 and can play a bit more defense.

What's the fascination with Drew Gooden? He wouldn't fit the Rockets. First of all his B-ball IQ is very low. You'd think that he develop some consistency by this time in his career, but nope, still inconsistent. I rather have Joe Smith than Drew Gooden. I'm not kidding either.
He's 6-10, can start, got a short contract (expiring next season) if he isn't a good fit. The key thing is he might be attainable since Cavs are eager to re-sign Varejao which puts them over the luxury tax threshold. Depending on how desperate they are to avoid LT Gooden could be a salary dump.
sorry to burst this bubble, but no one will accept john lucas, especially in a package that includes 2 other point guards.
We are also looking at Amir Johnson, a restricted FA. He's definitely not a veteran that can start, as he is only 20 years old and played only a handful of games last year. He has grown 2 inches to 6'11" in the last 2 years and might still be growing. He could provide 10 minutes as backup C, eventually. http://www.detroitnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070630/SPORTS0102/706300320/1127
