Big Whoop. Businesses can do what they want. If someone doesn't like it, just go buy somewhere else. Kind of like the philosophy of if you don't like smelling cigs at the bar, go to a different bar...oh...that didn't work out. Anyway, No big deal. Everythings overpriced at CVS anyway, except 12 packs of soda when you buy 3 or more. Take away the cigs and fill it with more obesity/diabetes/cavity causing candy.
Why doesn't CVS carry p*rn? Why doesn't CVS carry Lumber? Why doesn't CVS carry everything? I mean, if you believe the seller shouldn't be making decisions about what they carry... I personally applaud the move. CVS is a pharmacy first, which should be towards promoting good health (yeah they will still carry unhealthy crap, but still). For CVS, tobacco products are a relatively small portion of sales (I would guess quitting aids are a much better seller). To me, it is doing something to further differentiate itself from Walgreens & Rite-Aid. Fascinating that the capitalists are against this.
They have good prices on generic drugs and do very good sales. The key is to avoid paying full price, which is true of most retailers. They are really great for couponers.

Family Dollar FTW on generic OTC drugs. My insurance covers 100% on most of my prescriptions anyway, but I'm at walgreens for that anyway.
What are they trying to prove? I hate coddling people. They should carry suicide pills. I would. Not my problem, my problem is making money.
Then you don't get it. Businesses who strictly view business as making money are the reason we have so many serious problems in the world, like cigarettes. CVS is practicing conscience capitalism here and many evolved people such as myself will support that.
I buy at CVS and at Walgreens and welcome this decision and hope other pharmacies follow suit. I think October, however, is a bit too far for us to wait as far as telling how it goes. I still think its funny that the same people that applaud this stuff are the same people who pimp legalizing mar1juana. People are funny I'm guessing they are still going to sell beer..........

Same here. What bothers me even more is Texas' generally puritanical attitude towards alcohol, particularly liquor. I remember the first time I went to Roswell, New Mexico and walked into a Walgreens- and they had bottles of Jack Daniels, etc. behind the counter for sale. Funny thing is, I didn't all of a sudden have an extra urge to buy hard liquor- but I appreciated the convenience of being able to pick it up in Walgreens. A lot of the laws they have for alcohol purchases are silly- not the DWI laws- those are absolutely necessary- but the sale, and even things like the absence of casinos in Texas, etc. Refreshing to drive from Lubbock 3-4 hours west and feel like you have more freedom. And THAT is coming from a liberal. This is where the lines blur- as a conservative, I'm sure Commodore agrees that they, as a corporation, have the right to do what they want (like Chick-Fil-A- right, Commodore?). At the same time, CVS doing this is making a moral judgment, so a conservative would have issue with it. Same goes for liberals. Funny how the line is blurred so frequently.
Yes- isn't smoking one joint the equivalent of 20 cigarettes? Can't mar1juana still give you lung cancer if smoked regularly? The contradictions are indeed amusing.
