Really. We can question a players' talent, heart, desire, etc. but he can't say anything in return? I'm surprised he hasn't said much before now.
I have just one request for Cat. For the love of God, pull up your shorts and tie the drawstring tighter! Yeah, yeah, we know you're tryin to "keep it real," but you ain't no teenage hoodrat baller. You're a freaking 28 year old, basketball professional! (allegedly). You're playing for the entire country and all the world to see! And don't give us the excuse that you didn't know your waistband was halfway down to your knees, as many of us have videotape proof of you numerous times in the 2nd half pulling up your shorts, or, more accurately, putting on your shorts, after they had practically dropped to the floor after hard drives to the cup. So pull'em up Cat, high and tight. Just Say No to Slabbin', Cat! and Just Say No to Seeing Cat's Warez, Rockets Fans!
Cat's an idiot! Here the only Rocket left from our last playoff team, and he says he can't even remember what it was like. He sure as hell doesn't know how great Clutch City's fans can be because he wasn't here in '94 or '95 like most of us. Cat's all talk and very little play. He commits 7 TOs in Game 1 (yea the one we lost by 2) and gets torched for 36 by Kobe in Game 2, and now he wants to deflect his poor play to unknowledgable fans that have been paying to watch his sorry @$$ for the last 6 years make absolutely no progress in his game. Yet, he continues to talk as if he deserves to be in the All-Star game and can match up with any 2 in the league. You would have been surprised to see the support the Rockets are gonna get in game 3 at home, but you'd rather turn them against you by making thoughtless comments. Shut up, look in the mirror, take some responsibility for your play and your team's losses, and then do something about it. There's a reason we don't bash on guys like JJ or Yao very often even when they fail, and it's because they're not unappreciative bumbling idiots like you.
WE SURE CAN FOLKS! It's called, "the customer is always right", or somehwat Point is, we do pay for their services, that of producing entertainment and enjoyment from our daily working schedules. Sure, one person deciding to not buy a ticket for one game or an entire season, to try and "pay back" mobley. Won't have much an effect, or for that matter, be much of a "pay back". NBA will continue, Houston Rockets will continue etc etc Still, we as the paying public, do deserve to complain about the services we're getting in exchange for our hard earned money. We are not complaining about one's person or lack of character, we're not judging a human being on his/her personality, how they act with friends/family etc, or how they go about life. We are complaining over the player, his playing/working attitude, his production or lack there of, his contribution or lack there of to the team WE help paying for. Mobley however, has no right to complain. He is getting paid well, may not be as exaggeratey overpaid as most NBA stars, but he is getting paid well when it comes to playing a kids game. His schedule is the same as all the other NBA athletes, he isn't being forced overtime without being compensated, he isn't being abused by his boss or taken advantage of. He isn't being treated unfairly. We complain as well as we applaud as we please, we're paying for the entertainment, why shouldn't we be able to? So, as a player/worker, he has no right to complain over the fans' criticisms. It's always been part of the game, and fans involvement have been what made the NBA what it is today, and they have always complained, applauded, criticized players since its beginning. Just part of the game, as is taunting an oppositions player etc Players should just take to it as professionals, as they're getting paid as professionals, and ignore all that and just focus on their work/play. It's all part of the game.
while we might not be the best fans in the NBA, we are not that bad. Ok we are that bad but still he can't just talk stuff about the people who pay his salary. Actually in second thought i dont care what he says as long as he can help win game 3.
pretty simple solution...if you don't like what the guy said, do something else friday night. don't watch the game. don't view any commmercials that will help line all of these players' pockets. matter of fact, stop watching pro sports altogether. hell, go support whatever local high school sporting event that's going on right now. at least they won't be b****ing about the fans right? if you actually expect a player to care about you, or you care what these players think about you, then you are completely kidding yourself. i'd wager a great sum of money that damn near all of them could give a rat's ass about any of you people. i personally don't give a damn what cuttino mobley says or thinks about houston fans. you guys should've learned by now not to put any stock in what they say, or care about them on an individual basis. YOU DON'T KNOW THESE ATHLETES. he's just a pawn on a basketball team that will hopefully provide us with a championship one day, and the few days of joy that come along with it, nothing more. and yes, i've been a fanatical rockets fan since i was a little kid, but i'm not gonna worry what some moron athlete has to say about anything, much less something this trivial. if he helps us win game 3, then screw it. that's all that should matter. to hell with his opinions.
and that makes it alright for him to say what he said???? look... i may dislike some of my professors, but that doesn't make it right for me to stand up in the middle of class and insult them. that's not how things work...... period. i personally dont care what he thinks, but that doesn't excuse his comments. IT'S CALLED GRATITUDE.
Houston fans don't usually start caring until a team start to make some noise. I am glad atleast there's enough attention for the first playoff in 5 years but that's just cuz it's new. It's the same with the recent Texans (finally getting a NFL team again), you think the Oilers got the same amount of support? Hell, through the fist two championships, most of my school mates were pulling for different teams until we get into the western conference finals and all of suddent rockets fans again.
After hearing what ex Arizona Cardinal Pat Tillman did I almost cried. A professional athlete cared so much about his fans that he gave up his millions of dollars and his LIFE so we can enjoy the Freedom we hold so dear. He just didnt do it for his fans he did for every person who lives in this great country. Catino on the other hand is a Spoiled brat not living in reality and could care less about houston fans or anybody else. There men and there are men you never forget. Tillman will NEVER be forgotten. Catino once his NBA career is over he will be forgotten. He is a real class act.
Most people know I'm not Mobley's biggest fan on the floor ... but I have to say from what people who work with the team have told me over the years, he is honestly one of the best characters on the team. He would be one of the good guys in that regard. I think he just takes criticism to heart - he wants to be liked. Anyhow, I'm told Mobley addressed the media today about this and had this to say (I think the Rockets have put this up on their website also): Can I ask you a question? Who aired the something - I don't listen to sports, or read. I just watch basketball games. But somebody aired the thing that I said about the family problem the other day. And my friend told me that on 610 (AM radio) that people were killing me. Who would do something like that? Like why would you do it like that? It wasn't to be mean. It's just that basketball's one thing and my family is different. I cherish my family - that's what I'm trying to say. When people criticize the individual, we take that to heart. I love fans and the crowd and everybody. But I wouldn't want anybody to be mad at me about anything. I'm not that type of person. I've been here six years. Well, this is my sixth year. I don't really appreciate that. It's not cool. I feel bad about it. I didn't mean for it to come off like that. If anybody's going to air something, air that I'm sorry - if I offended anybody.
Houston fans have a bad reputation for being fickle and having a chip on their shoulder. I never got it even after living there for 8 years.
Rockets summary Mobley apologizes When asked if the Rockets had an opportunity to more accurately show themselves to those that had judged them so often this season, Rockets guard Cuttino Mobley said that was the least of their concerns and suggested a more constructive use for the public's scrutiny. "Who cares?" Mobley said of public perception. "The public can't play basketball. They can't coach. And they're not us. So they can say what they want to say. They need to concentrate on their families, because I know they have more problems." On Friday, Mobley said his family values talk was misunderstood, that he was angry with those he said misrepresented him and sorry to those he offended. "Basketball is one thing; a family is different," Mobley said before taking questions at Friday's shootaround. "I cherish my family. That's what I'm trying to say. You're supposed to cherish your family. Like if people criticize us or an individual, we take that to heart. "I love fans, the crowd and everybody. I wouldn't want anybody to be mad at me. I'm not that type of person. I don't really appreciate that. That's not cool. Luckily a friend of mine was listening to it, and I felt bad about that. I didn't mean to come off like that. If anybody is going to air something, air that I'm sorry if I offended anybody." http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/2528113
Remember this? "I am not a role model." Lighten up folks, he just basically said that when reality hits at the end of the day, there actaully is more to life than hoops. And most of us should worry about those things more than hoops. He's right.
