Ok if were going to talk taxes, lets deal with the facts, I borrowed this blurb from a tax publication I found on the web.

    Conclusion:

While clients need to consider many other matters, under the present tax laws, a Canadian resident will be taxed at the top tax rate of 45% to 53% (depending on the province of residence) on income over $60,000 Canadian. By contrast, in the United States the top tax rate applies only where taxable income exceeds $288,350 US. Income above that level is taxed at combined federal and state tax rates of 39.6% to 46% depending upon the state of residence. GUESS WHAT, with over 1/2 of the games being played in Houston, Dallas & San Antonio (with no personal state income tax in Texas), Cuttino can likely expect to pay around 41% in the U.S. versus 49% in Canada.

    $5,000,000 X 51% (100%-49%) = $2,550,000 after taxes in Toronto next year versus

    $4,100,000 X 59% (100%-41%) = $2,419,000 after taxes in Houston next year.

NOT A HELL OF ALOT OF DIFFERENCE FOR LOCKING YOURSELF IN FOR 6 LONG YEARS and foregoing the bird rights you could have earned much sooner by staying in Houston. Surely Cuttino's financial advisors have shown him this!!! NOW YOU HAVE THE FACTS.

If Cuttino is going to bolt because of playing time, he's not making the right decision. Sure, he has Shandon and Stevie here. But in Toronto, the situation isn't a whole lot more open. Now that Butch Carter has left, Doug Christie will probably stay. With Christie, there is a very little chance Mobes will start at 2-guard. Christie has been a Raptor for 5 years, is their all-time leading scorer, has formed into a fan favourite, and before last years play-offs he was regarded as the heart and soul of that team. His game is similar to Shandon's. A superb defender, he quietly finds ways to score, and does the little things that don't show up on the scoresheet. Asides for Christie, the acquisition of Morris Peterson further clouds the position, as you guys mentioned. I'm sure Lenny will want to give him an opportunity to develop, and give Mo Pete some playing time to prove himself. Though Dee Brown has left, 3-point specialist Dell Curry has an important role with the team. Peterson and Curry can play SF, but with Air-Canada Carter roaming that position, they're gonna see a lot of time as off-guards. Obviously, everyone knows the Raptors are weak at Point Guard. Mobes could very well start in front of Bogues, Williams and Workman. But does Cat really want to be a PG? He is a natural shooting guard, and is most effective using his speed and quick step against bigger, slower guards. And he just doesn't have the PG mentality, as we all learned two seasons ago. Remember, even McGrady himself didn't become a starter until most of last season was played. What makes Mobley think he will immediatley?

So, unless Cuttino has a false image of him getting all of TMac's playing time or unless he wants to play the point, I don't think playing time is the issue. It has to be a combination of money and the proximity to home. Or maybe, he's some sort of freak and actually wants to live in an igloo. [IMG]

Swami-- My post was only in response to LiLStevie3's where he said that the tax rate here was about 30%. That is wrong and I was only providing some info for him. I do want to thank you though for giving me THE FACTS. I would like to direct you to my profile and inform you that calculations of "take home pay" or after-tax income is kindergarten-level financial planning for people with my level of experience in my business.

Grummet I was wrong about our tax rate, but thank you Swamis for proving the point that if Cat went to Toronto and took the 5 mil, he wouldn't be that much better off than the 4 mil, because of Canada's high tax rate. Plus after the year of 4 mil, Cuttino will get a contract worth mor than 5 mil a year anyways. So Cuttino's decision better not be on money or playing time. The only reason that he SHOULD go to Toronto is for more recognition and a starting spot. I know you guys say Cuttino will be in Vince's shadow, which will prevent him from being noticed if he becomes a star, but Cat would still get more recognition as starting SG for Toronto than 6th man for us. Think about it, I didn't see many writers or analysts giving Cuttino the 6th man award, because of lack of publicity and recognition. Oh yeah, Azim da Dream, I think Cuttino is guaranteed a starting spot, or he wouldn't think of going to Toronto over Houston, and Toronto wouldn't give 5 mil over 6 years to a 6th man.
