Wait...there are some guys in baseball who have the body of a linebacker. There are no linebackers who have the body of the average baseball player. Football does emphasize quickness and agility...but to say it doesn't emphasize strength at the linebacker position...really???
The Williams cases are based on a Minnisota law that protecting employees regulates drug test. Texas doesn't have those laws so Cushing has no recourse.
I completely butchered that on my phone. What I meant to say is.... The Williams cases are based on a Minnesota law that protects employees and regulates all drug tests.
There's a lot of things I could cite here, but what do you think the proportion is of American-born pro wrestlers who played high school, college, or professional football ? Now, What do you think it is among pro wrestlers who played high school, college, or professional baseball? Do you think that the average fan regards the likely conditioning, nutrition, and training program is more similar between, say the Rock (Dwayne Johnson, the U) and Brian Cushing? Or the Rock and CC Sabathia?
Oh my...(gulp) Adam_Schefter Texans LB Brian Cushing flunked his test in September and played last season with the specter of a four-game suspension hanging over him
hurt his knee in august...tested positive in September. I hate to automatically put the "roid" tag on him but I do wish we could find out exactly what it was.
Then I misunderstood you. I have no problem saying that people see more similiarities in body type from wrestler to football player than from baseball player to football player.
I thought this was already understand, he failed this test last season. but I have to ask again since it hasn't been answered, when you are suspended, doesn't it mean you failed at least two tests?
i don't know the answer to your question. and while i knew he failed the test last season...i didn't realize it was as early as september.
no surprising, but when I first read this, I thought this was a new test, not the one from last year... those first four games w/o him will be tough...
apparently. though, i still stick by the argument that if this were a QB, it would be a different story....that then you'd see a football player get incredible scrutiny for failing a PED test. i still don't think it would keep them out of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, however.
regarding cushing and natural ability and steroids, some of the things that really make this guy special I don't think you gain from steroids. the first thing I noticed about the guy is his closing speed. he gets next to the ball carrier and its a done deal. I think that is based a lot on natural instinct. the best and most efficient way to get to the ball carrier. the other thing is the interceptions. some of those interceptions were pure hands, as far as having strong hands to hold onto the ball, as well as great hand eye cooridination. he's not just some brute force like someone erroneaously compared him to romanowski earlier.
exactly. He wasn't a DE that just bull rushed pass people with pure power. He had a nose for the ball and missed assignments in the start but then started to get it and fit in great.
That plus he play(s)(ed) for the Texans and let's face it: the rest of the sports world really isn't all that interested in them given their rather short and bleak history. The Cushing story caused nary a ripple up here (Dallas) and I suspect that is the case elsewhere.
and a miles austin story would cause narry a ripple here. now an andre johnson story? maybe, he still does play for the texans but he's recognized around the league as the the best or second best receiver.
Right which is why I used the term coverup earlier although that may have been a bit too harsh. They knew about the test results but chose not to reveal the results during the season as it would have created a bombastic situation. After all, the news would be out once the NFL ruling came down anyway and that was going to be well after the season ended. It was the smart thing to do although me being of the suspicious sort, it does make me wonder what else they're hiding. Now before anyone here takes this as a accusation of some sort let me state for the record that my belief (and trust) in Smith & Kubiak is much less than 100% so I am naturally skeptical about their motives.
