    Well, it's like this:

Cushing was trying to hide something (possibly ovulation which makes him the first transgendered player to suit up for a Houston team), took hCG and got caught. And since he gets to keep the DROY award, he did indeed "get away with it". As I see it, at least he'll have something to keep him company while he's sitting on his butt for the first four games of the 2010 season.

Now I find all of the reactions of support around here most interesting because I don't think ANYONE here would be going the extra mile to give the accused the benefit of the doubt if that player had played for the Cowboys or Saints or whomever. Suffice to say, folks here want to win at any cost and the question of ethical behavior is to be strictly avoided. Such is most often the case when a team has not experienced any meaningful success over a period of years. Fans become so desperate for success that they don't care how it's achieved. Just win baby becomes their mantra.

Funny thing though. It never seems to work out that way. Teams that go get players that force you to look the other way or turn a blind eye to their character don't appear to enjoy any more success than teams that strive to do things in an ethical manner (Cincinnati & Dallas come to mind here). But the pressure to win at all costs is so great that it becomes a true test or indication of an organization's commitment to their beliefs when players on their roster do something that shines a negative light on that organization.

This was the case recently with Pittsburgh concerning Holmes and Rothlisberger. Holmes got suspended for 4 games for violating the league's drug testing policy. The Steelers dumped him on the NYJ where when last seen, he was involved in (yet) another public incident. For him, the beat goes on. Big Ben seemed determined to show the whole just what a colossal a-hole he could be and from all reports, he succeeded admirably - doing so well in fact that he earned himself a six game suspension (maybe he and Cushing can "hang out" for those first four games). Even though he has effectively torpedoed their playoff chances for the 2010 season, the Steelers despite all of their commitment to character and clean living are standing by him at least until his next motorcycle accident.

Which brings us to Brian Cushing. If the NFL's system worked like that in the real world, it wouldn't have taken months for the process to work its way to conclusion. Cushing would have been suspended during the 2009 season and thereby would have been ineligible to compete for the DROY award. All would have been right with king and country and this thread would never have existed. But because Nero and the Romulans altered the timeline setting into motion events that lead to the destruction of Vulcan, the NFL's appeals process consumed so much "time" that in this universe Cushing was allowed to game the system and continue to play while the Texans organization was able to publicly pretend that everything was kosher. So it's not really their fault at all. In fact, we can all now proudly point the finger of blame toward the parties most responsible for bringing this embarassment and disappointment to the Houston Texans organization: THE NFL and the Romulans.

    Haha.

Maybe his publicist should have told him that channeling Arnold from Kindergarten Cop with the "It's not a tumor" speech was not smart given arnie's own roid admissions.

    This just reeks of lying...

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5186293

Cushing confirmed he tested positive for HCG, a fertility drug that is on the league's banned substance list.

"The question of how it got into my body is still unclear," he said. "It's something that I'm very personally concerned about, just the fact that how it's there and what's going to determine it from happening again, and that's something we're going to have to medically investigate."

He said that after failing the test, he was told HCG can get in your body from injecting it or because of tumors. He said this information led him to believe he had tumors. He did not say what kind of tumors.

"I personally know I'm not injecting myself with anything," he said. "I played the whole season thinking this could not only be my last season, but my last year."

Cushing added he is concerned about his health and plans to undergo tests to see "how this got into my body" and to try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

So he is really concerned about the possibility of a tumor and was worried that this might be the last year of his life, so he's going to medically investigate ... here in May 2010. Despite knowing about the positive test September 2009. Sure, that makes perfect sense.

Yeah, so, this is DEFINITELY want fans of any team would do. When its your favorite player(s) on your favorite team, it's different. Come on.

    Not buying Cushing's story.

If he had discovered that he had a tumor during the season but kept playing without telling anyone, he needs to have his priorities straightened out.

Let's put this tumor rumor whatever you call it to rest:

I wondered about that too. He never said anything about having a biopsy/MRI/etc or whatever you need to get checked out- just that he was 'worried about his health and has to get it figured out'. Um, what have you been doing the past 8 months since you found out about the hcg? Surely by now you would know something if you had serious health problems.

I'm afraid he ultimately hurt his cause even more today. But, there's no proof that he juiced in the test, so I guess most people wouldn't admit it if they did.

I listened to the audio at work and just got finished watching the video: the two things I came away from watching the presser are this, first off the kid's lying, he kept coming back to never ingested or injected the substance, stressing thi over and over: I betting he knows another way it could have gotten there other than injesting or injecting. Secondly he stands accused of using steriods, let's be frank, no mention of that at all. We all know why HCG was there yet he never mentions steriods, he's happy to keep focus on HCG.

Lastly, this kid on the football field will run through a wall to make a play, that is plain to see in his demeanor, I;m betting he's willing to just about anything for football. I hope I'm wrong but in Brian Cushing, I feel I am looking at a habitual offender here. His attitude and treatment of the whole event: especially since I've seen the presser just reminds me of Pacman Jones and his complete disbelief that he had everbeen in the wrong in any his repeated offenses, again, I hope I'm wrong but this kid appears sold out to his way of doing things.

It's definitely worrisome as more details come out and Cushing starts talking (which is not helping him, lol). As others have said, Cushing is one of those players that just has the make-up of being an absolute junkie when it comes to any supplement/etc that would give him an edge.

The kid's an idiot though if he continues to abuse roids the rest of his career. For our sake, I certainly hope he doesn't become a perpetual user.

So medically speaking, there's like a 1/1,000,000 that he is telling the truth? As a Texans fan, I hope he's being truthful, but it seems really unlikely. Who knows, maybe it's one of those medical miracle mysteries that end up on Mystery Diagnosis. That's basically what he's saying right?

Maybe he did go to the doctor I doubt it but who knows. What I do know is he needs to shut up and stop regurgitating what his meathead homeboys tell him... tell 'em you got tumors dog... yeah it was tumors.

Hope he doesn't have tumors cuz then I'd feel all guilty and stuff.

I was watching some of his workout vids on youtube and he is like a rachorse for that gym he works out at, they will destroy him and his body, longterm, if it means they get one more youtube video of him where they get to flash the name of their gym at the end; Defranco whatever his name is, is loving the pub, I promise you that.

God I would have rather him kept his mouth shut than this lie. Either it's a lie, he's really stupid, or he is a medical mystery. Hmm.
