Wow that's awesome, the Texans have the first EVER 2 time Defensive Rookie of the Year. Congrats! Again Cushman.
Won't say its justice but the process was silly to begin with...first ever 2 time defensive ROY.
He's no longer a 2nd team All-Pro. Its cool though, we all know that one of the top OLB in football plays for the Texans.
I can't believe people are still saying this. Dude failed the test in September. Wasn't even notified until he had passed two tests AFTER that, and then passed every test during the season. Plus, he only had slightly elevated levels. Hell, it was so low, that if he had the same levels the year before, he would have been considered clean by the league. Do you credit the Steelers of the 70s, since their entire O-Line was on the juice? Do you credit Peppers DROY award in 2002 and Merriman's in 2005? Seriously.
He was clearly clean from September onward...and his play improved as the season progressed. No reason to think he wont be a monster like he was last season.
Take it for what its worth..... @awexler: "We did our research on [Cushing]... we concluded he was a chronic steroid user dating back to HS" - from an NFL GM http://bit.ly/bxgiTq
Even if he loses a little strength (he won't lose much), I don't think he'll miss a beat. His best attributes are his sideline-to-sideline speed, his field awareness, and his motor. None of those will be affected much by him giving up steroids. He may have needed steroids to get where he is, but he won't need them to stay there.
He'll be even meaner next season now that he's got something to prove. I expect many beastly hits and vicious take downs.
i dont have a problem with that. if he could not the horse shoe of Payten Manning's helmet in his 1st game back, he will be my new fav player on the team
I don't know how you conclude that unless someone tells you they shot him up or sold him the drugs. Sounds like a GM jumping to conclusions- there are plenty of idiots in NFL front offices so it doesn't surprise me. If the ultra-conservative Texans didn't have a problem with his background or steroid rumors, I'm guessing not too many teams really believed that.
This logic is pretty flimsy. I think NFL teams probably do have a better intuation/system in ferreting out the chronic PED guys consdering they have a lot more at stake than you and I. But they also probably have a certain comfort zone/tradeoff level of who is and who is not likely to get caught. Second, so what if the Texans were duped. Obviously they were since the guy is now verified as using. But ultimately, they're just one team out of 32. What difference does it make taht their scouts were fooled?
