I'm not saying he's the greatest guy to work for or even a good person. I was just saying that you were going overboard by saying "it must suck to be Brian Cashman more than anyone else." There are alot of people that would love to be in his shoes(the GM of the winningest baseball team in Major League history) including guys like Yankees hitting coach Rick Down who was let go. Just a few days before he was given his walking papers he said "It's a tough place to work," Down said. "Not everybody can deal with it. But I'm not going to walk away from anything." I wouldn't deal with a boss like Steinbrenner, unless I had the opportunity to be in Cashman's shoes, as the GM of a Major League baseball team. . Don't need to. It's "The Boss'" team. He pays the salaries, so he can do whatever he wants. Torre lets him say whatever he wants, then goes about his own business, often letting it roll off his back. Zimmer couldn't handle it and I don't blame him for leaving. No one should work where they feel they are being disrespected. Some people can handle the pressure. Some can't.
Well, it is tough to say. I think that the fans got more upset at Kim's inefficiency as a closer. They (Red Sox mgmt) said that his shoulder was sore last season in the playoffs, but I have my doubts about that one. For whatever reason, BK is not as effective as a closer as he is as a starter. I think he is going to be a very good starter and I would love to see him as the #4 guy behind Pedro, Schilling, and Lowe, but the team is already committed to Wakefield (and he has earned that, especially after his performance in the ALCS, Game 7 notwithstanding). With Kim due for arbitration (I think that is what he is due), it doesn't make a lot of sense for them to spend so much money on a guy who would be their #5 starter (well, the Yankees would do it but even the Sox have their limitations ). If they don't sign Foulke or Tom Gordon, then it will be between Kim and Williamson for the closer job, although I have read that they are going to try to get rid of both as they have some key players to resign after the 2004 season. But whoever gets BK and gives him a chance in the rotation will have themselves a good one.
I live in Boston so I followed the season and playoffs pretty closely. BK obviously has great stuff, I mean that dude Bradford kicked our asses in the ALDS but Kim's stuff is so much better. However, I don't think his fragile psyche is fit for Boston. Wakefield was a savior last season, and with the emergence of Williamson in the playoffs, I don't really see a role from Kim. I mean he's a waste at long relief. In any case, Schilling helps the team. Now if we could only trade you for A-Rod... haha
As well you should. Let us not forget Kim's performance for the D'backs in the WS. I think he blew every save opp.
Someone sent me this link of Curt Schilling posting on a Red Sox message board and arguing (message board-style) over who would win in a Shark-vs.-Bear fight. http://pub208.ezboard.com/fsonsofsa...ageRange?topicID=12304.topic&start=61&stop=80 page 4 is where he lays his case down. I love the Internet.
