Damn there is alot of hate here. If you don't like it, don't watch it. So because they advertise you hate it? Do you hate Progressive Insurance too as their commericals are on more than any other? I don't hate it, it gives women a chance to make money being an athlete, just like their male counterparts. I do think that bringing up the negatives about the sport is just about as dumb as you can get. I know they are trying to "tackle the stereotypes head-on", but it doesn't work like that. Just advertise the rookies coming in, show some in-game action and leave it at that. You have a core fandom that you should try to grow, but they are intent on advertising to people who will never watch the league to begin with.
Well I guess the WNBA did what they wanted to accomplish considering this thread went 3 pages so far.
Exactly. I don't understand the deep hatred for the WNBA. It's as if they hate the idea that women play basketball professionally. The idea that women have the opportunity to earn a living playing basketball. The WNBA has it's fans and let them enjoy their league. If you don't like the WNBA, don't watch it and let them make their living.
I don't hate the WNBA. I just find it incredibly boring to watch. I tried during the Comets years of success. Just couldn't do it. I don't care if other people enjoy it. I'm a soccer player and have had to endure years of bulls*** from haters. If you don't like it, don't watch it. Also, don't bash people that do. I don't like NASCAR either. If you do, more power to ya.
I need to watch more tennis...oh wait... I can honestly say I have watched zero WNBA games and that's because it doesn't seem entertaining...This may be sxist, but they aren't hot, and it's just a slower game compared to the guys...
As NBA fans we are forced to subsidize a sport that cannot make it on its own merits. Since we know a % of the money we pay for tickets is being dumped into the WNBA it kinda irks us off. It is not like it is just there. Plus on Sat. they kicked off the season by offering no NBA playoff games.
I remember I was really excited for WNBA to start and I watched the first 4 years and after that, it went downhill...nothing can beat a NBA game. Comets are still cool with me, just don't really watch them anymore. Candance Parker is prettier than Lisa Leslie who looks too manly! Anyhoo, I wonder if she's still dating this guy.
I don't really watch women sports much because they are typically at much lower level than men's sport. In college I played with girls from the women's basketball team in pickup games and could actually not look like a fool out there, I can score over the smaller players and sometimes block their shots. I also played a couple times with the men's players, but I would not dare to guard anyone of them (I leave that to much better players on my team ) , the big ones will just kill you by jumping over you and dunk on you, the tiny ones will make you look like a fool by blowing by you like you are standing there like a stone.
So true. I remember about 4 or 5 years ago me and two other guys went to a streetball tournament. We were all 15-16 years old, just average Joes - no real athletes and no serious ballers. We didn't really play that often but decided to give it a go. One of the games was against a team of our women's U-18 national team's candidates. They were all older and obviously played basketball regularly. We won comfortably. We lost all the other games because we were pretty terrible. Women just suck at sports. A high-school team would destroy any WNBA team.
Maybe a high school all star team, not the regular high school teams. If you put a team with players like Lebron (highschool version) and other super talented high schoolers on it, I am sure they will dominate the WNBA. How could they handle 7 foot athletic guys? It is a dunk everytime down the court.
This probably isn't a great comparison, but I remember a scrimmage between the girls and boys team at my HS. The girls team went to the state finals and had two division 1 players that both went to very good basketball programs. The boys team didn't even make the playoffs and had zero college players. The girls team had a hard time getting the ball across halfcourt.
