I mean the movie was good.... I don't know why everyone holds it in such high regard.

Honestly, I don't think I've ever seen the whole thing.

Count me in with the overrated crowd. I couldn't even pay attention the entire time. I'll try to watch it again, maybe I'll change my mind.

Stories have been told and re-told for centuries. Why do people act like this is a new thing? How many versions of every Shakespearian play have you heard of? How many classic movies have been made and re-made half a dozen times before most of us were even born?

I don't mind them remaking great movies. I have a problem with them remaking crappy movies. They can remake Scarface. If they remake Ishtar, I'll be annoyed.

I don't hate it, but I never understood why it's considered a "classic". I'll watch it when it comes on just for the shock value, but it ain't exactly The Godfather.

I always thought Pacino's fake accent was a little distracting.

To the folks who think the movie was overrated, was it at least entertaining??? Especially Pacino's performance??? The soundtrack???? What about the action/ last act of the movie??? I can't imagine seeing that in theaters back in the 80's I'd **** my pants!!!

It hasn't aged very well at all -- good movie, but definitely overrated.

Scarface is a truly awful film - a histrionic, ham-fisted and misanthropic tumor that fails so badly at satire that people (mostly wannabe gangsters) actually think it's a serious drama. I think it's pretty disturbing how many of these wannabes idolize the character of Tony Montana - a sociopath who kills everyone (friend and foe) in his wake. Even more ironic, Montana is praised for his willingness to "do whatever it takes to get to the top" - never mind that (1) he's shot down like a rabid dog in the end and (2) his "success" is the result of behavior that would have gotten him killed in the first 30 minutes of a more realistic film.

If you can't tell, I'm not a fan.

The new Scarface: Abimelech Goldstein came from Israel to New York and corners the bagel industry, leaving bloodshed and yeast behind wherever he goes. "All I have in this world is my matzah balls and my word."

And what brought Montana down? His refusal to kill a child, showing that even he had his limits. Was Pacino's performance over the top? Yeah, absolutely, but that's pretty much what Pacino does, give over the top performances.

Is Scarface a classic? Not exactly, but the film was a cultural event, it was over the top, because drug violence and gang warfare were (and still are) over the top, consider what's currently happening in Mexico.

And even though the films were noticeably different, Scarface and Wall Street both touch upon similar themes. Can you imagine Pacino playing Gordon Gecko? I can, because he played the gangster version of Gecko in Scarface.

Scarface was a movie best experienced in the freewheeling coke excessive 80's. From my experience, for optimum viewing you needed a snootful of blow and a dirty girl(or a crew of crazy mofos just tearing **** up).

In my opinion, it's popularity was largely due to the culture at the time. I still think it's a damn good movie, but when I watch it these days, it strikes me as cheesy in parts.

With the right cast and some alterations, a remake has potential.

I haven't seen it, but I assumed it was tongue-in-cheek, too. If the serious fans of it I've encountered are indicative of the whole population of fans, it's not surprising it's so popular.

I actually heard it did awful when it came out. Got bad reviews but then later became a hit.
