Part of why probably more women steal is the vestige of chivalry. As the guy said in the clip if he chose "steal" everyone there would've lynched him. From the chivalrous POV its better to be a good hearted dupe than a hard hearted winner.
When I was living in Latvia, I used to watch this show called Spit or Swallow. The guy pretty much won every time.
I remember watching a show similar to it on GSN network called Friend or Foe. It wasn't that great. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/cnP1L4z5eoI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I think my strategy would simply be to split. If the other person also splits, I win 50K and I don't have the guilt of having screwed the other person of 50K. If the other person chose steal, I would have gotten 0 anyway. Of course, others may not like the idea of coming away with nothing while the other person wins big. They'd rather both get nothing. As I see it, the difference doesn't really matter all that much -- on my end I get no money either way. I may actually be inclined to favor the other person winning 100K rather than both of us getting nothing. At least one of us goes home happy (though perhaps feeling morally dead inside -- which in its own way would also be gratifying ). To me, what it comes down to is this: do I care more about winning the extra 50K or not having the guilt of possibly taking away 50K from the other person who trusted me?
Even more reason to split. Best case scenario, I win 50 million bucks. Worst case scenario, I lose, the opponent wins 100 million. I get nothing. But perhaps more likely, I lose, the opponent wins 100 million, and out of guilt he decides to share a portion of that with me. I mean -- 100 million is a lot of money. I think he's more likely to share a substantial portion of that with me than if it was 100K. If I choose steal, best case scenario is I win 100 million (which I'd feel incline to share a portion of with the other person). But 50 million versus 100 million -- not a big difference from my perspective. Worst case scenario, we both get nothing. That would suck. To me, that's an easy decision which to take.
They're teachers and they don't know what inertia is? I don't remember my teachers weren't this dumb...
