I guess this movie didn't have much of a long lasting impact but a lot of the scenes in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels were adlibbed. <iframe width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/dX3ePAOUK7U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
the Three Amigos scene where they each sing a chant to the singing bush was all improvised..they were jjust told to chant something.
Supposedly David Thewlis improvised most of his role in Naked, though how much of it was improvised at the very moment of filming I don't know. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107653/trivia [rquoter]The script was largely created by improvisation during 11 weeks of rehearsal before shooting. The script was only 25 pages long.[/rquoter] Either way, his performance, and mind, are absolutely astounding. NSFW (language, ridiculously catchy five second distillation of mankind's evolution): <iframe width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/5YcsoQ4JgBQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
This is how Mike Leigh (the director) works. His scripts are more like actors workshops. He basically has an outline for a story, casts the actors and then improves the scenes. What he likes he writes down and after several months a script is formed. Improvised moments, perhaps Batman Jones can elaborate, are happy accidents in essence. They're more in the moment.
You Can Count on Me- a moth flies onto Mark Ruffalo's hand in the middle of a big dramatic monologue. he just goes with it and it's brilliant
I think I remember that scene; Ruffalo's was a great performance, beginning to end. That reminds me of the scene that a lot of people reference when describing Marlon Brando's genius, when he spontaneously picks up Eva Marie Saint's glove and tries it on, as if imagining, trying on her life, for the first time. <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/dHtJUWO7yeA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
