I love this Marlin team. I wish it would have been the Marlins and Twins but I'll take a Marlin/Yankee series (hopefully)

Of course, they're on their third owner since that World Series win. I don't think there was a real coherent strategy a lot of the time.

I think it's sort of interesting that the guy who previously owned the franchise has a big stake in the Red Sox.

Sad thing, to me anyway, is that the Marlin, even though they were a winning team this year (and are now going to the World Series) still only average about 16,000 fans per game this season.

    absolutely.

heck, a city that actually deserves something is Cleveland. They havent won a major sports championship since the Super Bowl was born. Didn't the Browns win a couple of AFL titles. The Cavs suck. The Browns are a cursed franchise. The Indians go to the world series only to lose it.

And heck, how about Houston? The Astros are a cursed franchise. The Oilers were cursed. These two teams gave us nothing but heartbreak. Our city had zero major champioships until the best team in all of sports the HOUSTON ROCKETS got it done!

I am so thankful that my favorite team in all of sports does not have that "cursed" stigma attached to it.

Moms always have interesting reasons why they like or don't a certain team. :)

I like their team's never-say-die attitude and the shrewd management by Jack McKeon. They are a class act and I said today on my radio show that the Marlins were going to win because:
    1. They had the momentum
    2. Wood is either a god or a dog on the mound, depending on the location of his slider and tonight, he came up as a dog.
    3. Superior management by McKeon.

I also said curses don't mean a thing, but that if the Cubs lose, this will rank as one of the worst chokes in sports history. Up 3-1 and you allow a team to take 3 straight games from you when all you had to do was WIN ONE!

I remembered watching one of the Braves/Marlins games with my grandfather and he mentioned simply that "these kids are damned good" as they beat the pants off the Braves. Well, I guess he was right.

If the Sox win (I hope), it will be a damned fine series, but I say Fish in 6.

The Browns won 4 AAFL titles during that league's run, and another 4 NFL titles onc they joined the NFL, the last one being in 1964.

The Indians last won a World Series in 1948. A year after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier (and the 1948 team had two African American players - Larry Doby, the first Black player in the American League, and the Great Satchel Paige, as well as the best baseball owner, or at least the most fun, in the history of the sport - Bill Veeck).

The Tribe has made three World Series appearances since, two in the 1990s (1995 and 1997) and once in 1954. Their only other Series win was in 1920.

The Marlins really remind me of last year's Angels. They hit the ball everywhere, they run the bases brillantly, every move works, and they have a young stud (Cabrera) who came out of nowhere. I know baseball is about tradition but scr*w it, I always root for the underdog. Especially if they're the first low budget team ($42 million) in the WS in quite awhile (how do you like that, Bud).

This loss means nothing, and there is no curse. Have you forgotten already, Cubs fans?

Like, Hello! The Cubs will sweep the Miami Gators in the 2015 World Series. Duh.

Agrees, I HATE the Cubs AND their fans!

I don't know why; I'm no satanist, but seeing 70-80-year old fans crying in the stands give me so much joy. And having the drunk bums blame a fan is pathetic, yet funny.

The Cubs came into this game KNOWING they had already lost. I loved the Marlins for more than one reason and have so much joy. Just about as much joy as if the Astros had made it.

    HOW 'BOUT THEM 'FINS????:D

I gotta admit that it's going to be nice to see Pudge Rodriguez playing in a World Series. He did a lot for the Rangers and was, I think, treated shabbily by them at the end. Glad he's getting to experience some post season winning.

So, I'll be pulling for the Marlin against whoever they end up playing.

Being an Astros and Oilers fan I can only sympathize with the Cubs fans. They cheer their team year in and year out and this loss was really heartbreaking. But, I think the Cubs were destinied to lose as soon as the official party line yesterday was that they blew game 6 because of fan interference. That's loser talk. Step up and take responsibility for losing your composure out there. And Dusty Baker, stop putting in Kyle Farnsworth and Dave Veres in the game at crucial situations. They suck. Dusty can be a strategic bonehead sometimes.

As for the Marlins, I couldn't have more respect for them. I wouldn't count them out of any series now, depsite their crappy pitching. Cabrerra is a stud. Wouldn't Juan Pierre look good in center field at Minute Maid, by the way? Speed kills. Dave Dombrowski did a good job at getting young talent during the 98 firesale and they made a wise, wise move in getting Pudge. He has been legendary during the playoffs.

Actually, mrpaige, the Browns started out in the old All-American Football Conference or the AAFC. That league existed for only 4 seasons with the Browns winning the championship every season. When that league disbanded after the '49 season, the NFL absorbed the Browns, the San Francisco 49ers, and I believe the Baltimore Colts who then became the New York Yanks in '51, followed by the Dallas Texans in '52 (one of the worst NFL teams ever) back to being the Colts in '53.

But you are exactly right about them winning 4 titles.

The Browns went to 6 straight NFL Championship games from 1950 to 1955 and here were the results:

    1950 - Cleveland 30, Rams 28
    1951 - Rams 24, Cleveland 17
    1952 - Lions 17, Cleveland 7
    1953 - Lions 17, Cleveland 16
    1954 - Cleveland 56, Lions 10
    1955 - Cleveland 38, Rams 14
    1964 - Cleveland 27, Colts 0
    1965 - Packers 23, Cleveland 12
    1968 - Colts 34, Cleveland 0
    1969 - Vikings 27, Cleveland 7

After reaching the '69 NFL title game, it wouldn't be until the '86 season that the Browns would reach a championship game, this time the AFC one where they lost to Denver. Then they lost again to the Broncos in '87 and '89.:)

Also interesting to note that Otto Graham played 10 seasons (1946 through 1955), and every season he played in a Championship Game winning 7 of them (although 4 of those were AAFC ones).

Maybe all the bandwagon jumper's will go ahead and jump on the bandwagon of hating the cubs for choking while us real fans can just say, wait 'til next year.

I wonder what the Cubs NL Championship shirts and hats looked like. I'm sure they had them there just incase the Cubs pulled it off last night.

What do they do with stuff like that, burn them, throw them away or do they just put them in a storage somewhere?

Maybe if Tim lurks in the Hangout, he can answer that question.

I once heard they send them out of the continent and use them to clothe the underprivleged across the sea. (Africa, Asia, etc.)
