one of many we've gotten lately. Nothing has worked. Move Berkman to the 3 hole, bagwell slides down to the #5 and we get the same result. Eventually the offense will get going, the only question is when
Yeah, but just wait until every other central team nosedives, and we kick it into 1st gear after running in reverse. We'll be unstoppable!!!111
Haha we're playing like the Mariners right now and for the first time in a few seasons, that's actually a bad thing. Funny how both these good clubs just suck right now. The Astros are too good not to turn it around, but this mediocrity doesn't seem to belong in this season. I was expecting around 105 wins, but as long as we finish first, it's all good.
???... I guess you're assuming that without Clemens we would have somehow lost every single game thus far that he's won (9) with his replacement? That's a pretty harsh judgement... sure we'd be worse off, but we wouldn't have lost every single game.
Clemens is going to look more like an average pitcher his second and subsequent go-rounds through this division. You can't expect this guy to keep up a Cy Young season.
I'm not assuming anything...take away his 9-1 record, and we are a sub 500 team. Thats a fact. We also went (i think) 2-1 in games he got ND's and pitched well...so say 11-2 with him in the lineup...therefore, even if his replacement was 5-5, we are a sub 500 team without him.
By the way, anyone catch Bags bodyslamming the cooler last night in the dugout? I can't ever remember seeing him that frustrated.
he's been through a couple of teams twice already, pgabriel. he's had one bad outing in about 14 or so starts. i have no reason to believe the guy isn't capable of winning well over 20 games with an ERA under 3.50
That's funny. Definitely possible, pgab, just depends on how he pitches. The new-league factor plays into it, but if he's painting the edges at 94 & mixing in the same splitter we saw up until last night, it won't matter how many times teams have seen him. Odds are he'll even out a bit, but he's a freak, so ya never know.
I shouldn't have written average because he will still have a few amazing starts as he did last year. I just think some of the hitters will figure him out eventually. But if he still ends up with an ERA of under 3.50 he's still a great value for what he gets paid and all the intangibles he brings.
Great start. Biggio leads off with a double and Berkman and Kent both strike out to leave him on third.
