I watched that finals, and I dont believe I've ever seen an NBA player avoid contact in the post the way dirk did, especially when he saw shaq. Keep taking those 3's dirk, 7ft and all. ...I love it :D

I predict that Avery will get fired within the next four months.

I agree. Dirk is actually underrated now. Avery, on the other hand...

avery johnson totally lost his team. he's a total control freak and just can't let go of his iso offense. he's totally overrated. while dirk, at least on this board, is incredibly underrated. let me tell you this, while i don't like dirk's game and i love yao, dirk on the international level and in the nba is more of a franchise player than yao. i'll probably get flamed for saying this and people will say i'm german, bla bla. but let's not get carried away. dirk is good. of course he can be taken out of the game with special defenses. so can teams take out yao. they're 7 footers after all and need others to pass it to them and make plays. and heck, teams that can afford it can even take t-mac out of the game with hard double teams.

and anyone's saying dirk's numbers last year weren't special and he shouldn't have been voted as the mvp doesn't have a clue.

he had a 50-40-90 season while averaging over 24 ppg in not too many minutes. name any player who has achieved such stats. he often didn't even need to play in the 4th quarter because the mavs dominated their opponents. besides that his per was around 28. hakeem olajuwon never had a per as high as this. i'm not saying dirk's better than hakeem in any way. hakeem's still by far my favourite player of all times. but you can see, dirk's season was indeed far away from being nothing special. and after all he was the best player on the best team. and 9 time out of 10 that means your getting the award.

well, let me add something. i hope avery stays and the mavs will choke in the first round again. as a true rockets fan i really can't stand this bunch (including dirk). they should get what they deserve for having an owner like mark cuban.

Regarding Dirk, not too many people disagree with him being named the regular season MVP. He had an incredible year on a 67-win team. Case closed. But his several disappearing acts against the Warriors will cast a pall over Dirk until he wins a championship. I still have the video of the 2nd half of Game 6. Dirk gutless/heartless performance will go down in history. It wasn't all about the Warriors defense.

Regarding AJ, I want Cuban to fire him so badly I can taste it. Let it happen, pleeeeeeease.

See, they just try too hard. That's what you get for being a media w**** like Cuban is with his blog, highly visible presence at games, etc. They're like the kids who have to say, "See, look what I did! Isn't it great?" Conversely, the Spurs just go about their business and get the job done without fanfare. Our owner, coach, and players are much more similar to the Spurs than Mavs, that's why we will be highly successful in the next couple of years.

Cuban should keep his hands off the team decisions, owners getting into decision making has never been successful (they should know across town with the Boys). The Kidd trade was doomed when the first proposal was killed. Kidd would have been a good deal 3-4 years ago but not now... I have no sympathy for them as they probably will change coaches and have to start over again next year.
