It may well be Cuban's purpose. He wants to lit a fire in his team, he wants to create a perception that "every one is against us". He's a smart business guy, although he might be a moron. No matter how you dislike him, we have to see that his little tricks works: he got the refs to call those moving picks of Yao, and he got more poeple talk about Dallas by selling icecream etc etc. It's just like entertainment business, no matter it's scandal, gossip, or controvercy, the only purpose is to draw attention and get your name mentioned. He know Barkley and Smith would never be friends of him, so why don't he just provoke them and make two famous guys from TNT his enemies? He succeeded.

Barkley spouts off personal opinions all the time? What is wrong with Cuban doing the same thing? Most owners don’t have the forum to really give a detailed response to an attack on their team. Cuban does and uses it. What is so wrong with that?

Mavs held Phoenix to 90 points in 4 quarters but, according to Barkley and Kenny, their defense stinks. Same goes for the Suns. They stink too and they hold he Mavs to 90 points in regulation. It is only one game guys. Say something with some substance. Saying the Mavs and Suns can’t play defense after one game is just rhetoric. I understand why Cuban posted on his blog. It is time Charles and Kenny wake up and do some homework.

I'm a big Mark Cuban fan. I think he's great, and if he were our owner, every one of you would be huge fans of his.

gotta agree with texxxx on this.

what Im reading here is seemingly influenced by our distaste of the Mavs...either that or some of yall are delusioonal thinking that Barkley has actual bball iq....please...there are folks on this board that have more ball smarts than BArkley has EVER had.
Kenny isnt as bad, he actually tries to make real points every once in a while, but to put him up there as some "expert" is ludicrous.

Basically...both sides of this dispute dont really qualify as experts...they are just two sides of the same coin...CUban is trying to get attention for his team...and TNT guys are trying to entertain by making fun of him.

If I want to get insight into the game...I'll ask a real expert...not a tnt talking head and a rich guy with a big mouth.

He is out of the ordinary and your probably right, but his comments were ridiculous...I saw the TNT halftime show and KS was PO'd and CB was PO'd as well, but tried to smooth the hurt with his jokes...
CB: " I love Mark Cuban...He's just made that the team is a bunch of creampuffs...built for the regular season"

CB: "I may not have as much money as MC, but KS and I know basketball"

    Funny stuff...

Not me. I like an owner who can do his job (very well, I might add) without constantly needing to draw attention to himself. Someone who lets the players and coaches have all the glory (as it should be) instead of trying to steal it for himself. Someone like Les.

If he was the Rocket's owner I probably would really like him, but he's not. He belongs to the dark side....the Mavs.

Cuban is closer to any one of us suddenly becoming a team owner than we want to admit. That's the difference; he's not like the other guys. He's almost just a fan who happened to make a sh*tload of money and was able to put himself in the position he is now.

It is both his greatest asset and his biggest weakness.

That being said, this makes him look foolish. It's all nothing more than sour grapes, bitterness and anger at what his team is doing/has done and the fact that it's getting pointed out.

....kind of like a post on a BBS from a fan.

I think I'd take the one with TWO championship rings at home over the one that owns a team for fun..

Now if Les was cocky and had his rings yes, but to be cocky and never win crap is a waste of an owner..

Cuban may lack class and all, but in this case, I think he won the battle versus the TNT duo.

I agree Bigtexxx. If he were our owner I would like his moxy. I could like him a lot better than if Tilman Fertitta became our owner. A good freind worked at La Griglia as Asst. Mgr - he related a story that Fertitta came in with a party of 12 on a busy saturday nite at 7:30 p.m. and ran up a bill of $2,300.00- cleared by him - as no sale. This comes off the Managers overhead cost- lowering margins for the nite and profit sharing slightly. that was not the big deal - Fertitta did not tip one penny to the 2 people constantly serving his table.

Thank god Fertitta is not our owner.

I would like Cuban if on our side.

    I like Les!

I agree Cuban would be a good owner if he were your owner.

Those that think most people here know more than Barkley about basketball are fools. He was one of the few guys to figure how to break Seattle's illegal zone (Hakeem and Clyde couldn't do it). A handfull of players today (Nash and maybe a few others) understand the NBA game better than Charles.

Charles has his faults on the court (primarily defensively and a few too many 3s put up), but he definetly knows basketball and the NBA. Most of you folks are just wound up too tight and take everything he says too seriously--can't seperate when he is just trying to get a rise out of folks and when there is some kernals of objective observations there. That isn't his fault you can't tell the difference, it is yours. Further, who cares if he underestimated Yao--it is no insult to you, be thankfull he was wrong and any extra motivation Yao has for proving others wrong is a good thing for the Rockets.

This whole thing (Cuban, KS, Charles) is just kinda funny, but all these guys are a heck of lot better for the NBA than David Sphincter Stern.

Doubtful - I would seriously consider rooting for another team - one that has an owner that doesn't NEED to be in the spotlight, sorta like Les Alexander.

the only difference between Stephen A Smith and Charles Barkley is that Barkley actually was a superstar so people somehow view his loud stupidity valid. I think espn has a much better show because while I like Kenny he is sometimes incoherent and when I watching espn I actually feel like I'm gaining some info instead watching silly jocs clown each other. If I want that I can hang out with my unmarried friends.

Not really. After the way he treated Nash, NVE and Finley, not every Dallas fan likes him either.

I pretty much agree with your analysis. And yes, I do miss Bill Walton. :)

For me, there's a lot more difference between Smith and Barkley than that. For one, Barkley's actually funny. For two, Smith comes across much more as a pompous ass. Not too mention that, while they are both loudmouths, Smith actually takes that quite literally, which is quite unwatchable.

You do bring up an interesting question, though....do people actually watch these shows to gain actual information? I mean, I want scores and highlights...but really, any of them can do that. Other than that, it's just personalities and opinions. Which, IMO, comes in a more entertaining package on TNT.

The TNT show is considerably more entertaining...while giving me highlights and interviews. A much better time.
