Why? Was it bad when LA went to 8 Finals in the 80's (winning 5), or when Boston went 4 times in a row (84-87), or when Chicago won 6 in the 90's (and put together a mega 3-some that set a record for wins), or when LA 3-peated and went to 4 Finals in 5 years, or if LA goes to the Finals again (4 in a row)? It's not bad and it's not the first time we have had a mega 3-some. It's just the first time the players put one together on their own.
legal issues aside, if they all knew they were going to do this, then they suck even more for the whole dog and pony show. especially wade using his kids. easily my least favorite team of all time. i'll get a mamba tattooed on my junk before i root for this incarnation of the heat.
Cuban, being a bitter man, he is would do anything to destroy Heat. He already has a bad taste in his mouth after being so close and then being denied the championship by the Miami Heat. I think it has finally dawned upon him that no matter what he does, it might not be enough to take on this Heat team.
You are saying that there's a viable lawsuit that would result in financial, but nobody would be willing to file one because they are too lazy? That would be a first. The problem I think that you are having is that you're focused too much on the actions of LeBron, Wade, etc. and finding it unseemly. But to even get to that stage with an antitrust level of analysis, you have to approach from the point of view of either their competitors (other players) or their buyers (the owners). Neither of these groups can show an antitrust injury of any sort. It had no effect on wages, since they were preordained to get the same amount regardless of where they decided to play, or whether they decided to play separately or together (which actualy made it harder for them to get more.). If it had no effect on wages, then there is no case. Finally, I said this before and I'll say it again, I wouldn't be surprised if personal labor contracts are exempt from antitrust scrutiny on many levels because it's simply not a workable context to apply traditional analysis, since it creates market definition problesm (in theory, every laborer in the world is fungible to an extent) - I bet there's law on it but I don't feel like looking it up.
Yeah, let's see.... McHale trades Garnett to boston, they win, West trades Gasol to the Lakers, they win, both do and will contend for years, and you think that Stern will be fair in his "investigation" of the Lebronwade heat scenario? This is exactly what the guy wants. The more of this smoke and mirror silliness I watch, the more I dislike Stern. It's like they are deliberately pooling the big {marketable} talent wherever they can, bringing the league to a handful of dynasty style teams that will compete with each other every year. $$$$ NOTHING will come of an investigation of this, if there even is one.
Point to Mark Cuban...he is one of the most passionate NBA owners. He has a good point in saying there need to better rules regarding tampering. He certainly has no axe to grind as the Mavs weren't even in the teams "considered" (wow, that word was hard to get out without choking). Further, why shouldn't there be an investigation? If the Heat did nothing wrong they should welcome it. If they did, well, it's better for the league as it will force a review of rules and guidelines. BUT, AND A BIG BUT, If any team could have pick up Wade/Bosh/James they would have. Stop hating on the Heat because they pulled off something that make us fans more excited since Jordan era. Everyone is forgetting that the players took less money to play together but you see all the negative. If you say well they want play together or after so long thay going to fuss well look at all the other greats they learned to play together and share not only that but if you willing to take less money I don't think a basketball will be that hard. Everyone is on the same page and that is to win. Now for the Cavs instead of showing LBJ love for what he did for the 7yrs and no matter what he does in the league he's always going to rep Ohio yall want to burn his jersery or call names not only that but the OWNER shows no CLASS at all so who wants to play there. Instead of keeping your mouth close and saying I want to Thank LBJ for the 7yrs that he gave our organization because you made a huge profit from that time period. If you really thought he quit on the team why was you willing to give him a max contract. Cuban if you could had two of those guys on the team you would and would be bragging around the league about it. I don't mind them playing together because this is exciting since the Jordan ERA!
Not lazy..that's not what I'm saying. There are all sorts of reasons people/entities don't file lawsuits. For instance, I don't think it's a smart business decision for an NBA franchise to sue another franchise and/or players. I think that's short-sighted. I've said a couple of times...I'm not sure if there's antitrust issue...and I'm not sure if there are common laws causes of action that would be reserved for those injured, like the Bulls or Knicks let's say, by what went down IF all of this was pre-determined. Like you, I'm not going to spend the time to research that. Beyond all of that....I think this leads the NBA to much more specific language in the CBA regarding prohibiting free agency being a collective effort as opposed to an individual one. One last thing...by it's definition, this is collusion. Whether it's actionable is a different matter.
