It'll only be worth something depending on the shoes he wore at the moment

You can see a miserable white tiger locked up by yalls beloved Tilman at the downtown shitquarium. Treats that tiger almost as poorly as he treats my Rockets.

These things are unobtainable. Collecting cards should be fun, not speculative.

Well, maybe, but that probably hasn't been the case for decades in pretty much any kind of collectible.

Thanks for reminding me I am getting old because it’s been decades since I bought any cards.

For me, it was the 90's. There's collecting pre-90's and post-90's. I could be completely wrong, but pre-90's seemed like it was about the player/sport or the comic book to me. The 90's is when it seemed like companies basically tried every method possible to get people to buy more crazy cards and the consumer gladly went for it. I still collect comics now (mostly old stuff for resale later) and it's still insanity. Comics cost $3-$5 and issue #1 may have 20+ versions of it (that's not a lie) that you can attempt to collect. 1A, 1B, 1C... 1AA, 1AB.... lol. It's not just NFT's - it's damn near everything. More power to 'em. With all the "free" money floating around, people are willing to pay up for a lot of these things, too.

I've been following this market a lot over the past couple days to learn it. Seems like prices are pretty wrecked right now with more downside, but it's an interesting setup. Seems like there is some longer term potential.

Can someone explain what this is.

To me you 'own' a highlight... but I can just go and watch it 1,000,000 times on league pass if I so choose?

What am I so obviously missing here?

Well, it just made it onto ESPN's radar today. So it should get another booster shot. One thing that I wonder about is say someone buys the Lebron 1 minute video, and then top shot starts selling the 30 second version of the same event, which is inevitable, then what happens to the value. And a second problem I imagine is that in 5 years my vintage video or digital content for LeBron may not display on current technology, or maybe there is no device to display it on, or even worse, now they come out with a new 1 minute video to display on the new tech. It would be like having a 2k video when the 4k video is in the market. In this instance a new format might extinguish the demand for the vintage format which is different than a baseball card or old car.

Maybe think of it more like buying stock in LeBron. It's not really about the video, although for some they may display it on their wall, it's really about investing in LeBron and riding his value up or down. People love making money and they love it even more when it's gives them an opportunity to prove they are smarter than everyone else ( Those elements will always create a market). .
