The problem is that most competitive gamers prefer mouse and keyboard to a controler.
I mean the reason I bought a Nintendo is because they have fun exclusive games and may of them are unique.
So how can Microsoft claim that exclusives are a hindrance to innovation, what are they innovating?
I think most people would agree that Nintendo has been the innovator in the console space and they also have the most exclusives, it doesn't seem to hinder them.

Exclusives are a hindrance to innovation because of their cost. They pay tens of millions of dollars for most exclusives, even for "timed' or "console" exclusives. Money that can be spent elsewhere. Also, many game developers don't like exclusives, as it limits their audience... and many game developers consider their work "art," and they want it consumed by as many people as possible so gamers can experience their art.

As far as mouse and keyboard, it depends on the game. Mouse and keyboard isn't always best - in most cases yes, but not always (like driving, sports, flying, etc.). Keyboard and Mouse is coming to Xbox eventually. Phil Spencer has said so many times. In the meantime I use a mouse and keyboard for FPS games on my Xbox with the XIM3 adapter.

Competitive gaming does exist on consoles, Halo World Championship being an example. Either way, think of Xbox as a platform now rather than a console - as Xbox exists on PC now. The MOBA scene is it's own beast, but FPS games like CS:GO and Overwatch could easily make the migration to consoles for competitive play.

Sure, I get it. I just think that if Microsoft are going to forgo exclusives, why don't don't they just drop Xbox and focus on Xbox live.

The Xbox is about media consumption as much as it is about games - it is all about their ecosystem as a whole, the console is just part of the ecosystem.

I only want Xbox and PlayStation to be connected. I don't want to play with PC users because of all the cheating going on in the pc gaming community.
