The Rockets are entering into a very tough stretch of games right now. The Celtics are hot and the Wolves, Mavs, Magic, Bucks and Trail Blazers are all very tough teams. I could very easily see the Rockets going 1-6 over the next seven games (with the one win being against the Bulls). Now you don't want to make too much of any single game and, obviously, every game is important for the Rockets right now if they are going to make the playoffs. But you have to ask yourself the question, if the Rockets don't fare well in the next seven games (let's say 5-2) what would be the point of making the playoffs even if they somehow backed in?

Some people think that there is a benefit to simply make the playoffs even if you get eliminated in the first round -- to give your players (and the fans) a taste of the future. But I am not so sure that this is the case, particularly if you lose your first round draft pick if you make the playoffs.

I would like to see the Rockets step it up one notch here and really show that they belong in the playoffs. Let's win the games. Let's take it to these teams. And let's show that we belong in the post season hunt.

I think that we will know in seven games if this is a team that is worth getting excited about.

I don't care how badly we might play in the playoffs, if we get there, it means something, and is way better than being in the lottery again.

Plus, if we manage to get into playoffs, in the Western Conference, without Webber, imagine how good we would be with him! That is an excellent enticement to get the guy in our city!

If we can get Webber in Houston this offseason, I predict another championship in 2 years at the latest.

Making the playoffs would also get the Rockets much more national exposure. Perhaps they would avoid the NBC snub.

Question, what does "backing into the playoffs" mean? Either you make the playoffs or you don't.

If you make the playoffs, ANYTHING can happen.

Backing In means that you make the playoffs because all the teams ahead of you are losing a lot, not because you're winning a lot. There is such thing as a "backing in."

Where does the rocks draft pick go if they do make the playoffs?

Actually, seeds 5-8 in the Eastern Conference will be "backing in."

Why do we lose our first round draft pick if we make the playoffs???

Building a winning culture isn't easy, but it IS important to a players mentality. Do you want our players to become "used" to losing and therefore rack up a losing record year after year?
I'd MUCH prefer a taste of the playoffs, not because it is a taste of things to come, but because it gives the players a feeling of success and a knowledge that they are a playoff team, and also builds a desire to further their achievements, an expectation to win.

    Bring on the Wolves.
