I think you'll find in most of the countries youve listed both Rugby codes are small compared to the likes of Soccer, tradition Irish sports and other regio0nal sports. As for League only being the top preference in Aus.....did you know League was banned in France by the government and has all its assets stripped and give to union? Also League clubs crowds in the UK are bigger then those of their union counterparts. I will say this though....union does a BRILLIANT job at the international level. They really get the most out of their game at test level where....like I said, League has fallen right away thanks to poor managment from the top nations. SmeggySmeg....League is a sport played in many countries across the World. And not just when some club from Victoria plays a game on a cricket oval in England!
Not any more. The writing was on the wall over here as soon as Union went professional. You're right, football is the most popular sport in the countries I listed (although things are regional in France, the south of the country is their rugby heartland), but Union is considerably more popular than League. I think that League suffers at international level because there is a lack of interest in other countries. I believe the Australia were over here last year, but there was almost no coverage in the media, and very little interest from the general public. And if I remember, the scores were all quite close.
Ah...Bailey.....Super League does get higher attendances then the ZP. You have to love these union fans. They never let a fact get in the way of an argument!
