    Just clarifying here. Salt Lake City is becoming increasingly less "Mormon" as more and more non-Mormon people have moved in over the last 50 years. It's still a significant portion of the population, (around 40-50%) but the cultural dynamic is very strained.

    A lot of people in the Salt Lake area, particularly centered around the University of Utah, feel threatened by the wholesome/conservative/religious image that SLC has had historically, and consequently, many people go out of their way to be as outrageously not Mormon as possible just to set themselves apart.

    Having lived in Utah for a while I saw that a lot, especially in and around Salt Lake City itself.
