I used MoneyManagement.org. My goal is to NEVER EVER have another credit card debt. I have taken on ZERO debt in the past 4 years. I am about to re-finance my home and include every penny of remaining debt I have in the refinance so I'll have one payment per month for every once of debt I owe. I may not get this paid off for 15 years or more, but this is it. I'm staying debt free from here on out. By the way, my credit was not ruined by the consumer credit program. In fact, they saved it. The only thing that dropped my credit was a Best Buy account because they refused to accept the debt reduction program and actually recorded me as 90 days past due at the time (this was 5 years ago). Part of the arrangement during the negotiation period was that they would not count me as past due, but they did anyway. If not for them, I would have a good credit rating. As it is now, it is fair and decent enough for me to re-finance my home on my own.
One last thing - If you do pay 1/2 and they "write-off" the rest, you'll have to claim it as income next year. Basically if you owe $25k and they settle for $12.5, they'll send you a 1099 next year for $12,500.
email me your credit card number and other important deatails (name, expiration date, extra 3 digits on back, etc) and i will figure out the problem for you in a jiffy.
