McGrady has done about as bad of a job as you possibly can in handling this whole surgery thing, but the doctor is legit. It's David Altchek, the same guy who operated on Pedro Martinez and Carl Pavano. He works at the Hospital for Special Surgery, which is currently rated the #1 Orthopedic hospital in the country:

    Best Orthopedic Hosptials

Looks like Altchek has 87 papers in Orthopedics, which is a pretty respectable number.

So, the doctor is legit. In fact, he's probably one of the best orthopedic surgeons in the country. BUT....99% of his papers are about shoulder surgery. A couple of papers on ACL repair, and nothing that I saw on microfracture for the knee. Now that doesn't mean he doesn't do knees. It could be that his academic interest may be in the shoulder, however, he still does various operations (I suspect this is the case). But it makes you wonder.

Heh! It's never straight-forward with McGrady is it?

I guessing he went to Rush in Chicago yesterday for his latest opinion.

Like I've said. If the Rockets medical staff turn out to be wrong on this, someone should be held accountable.

it has nothing to do with someone's credential. dude. you need to get your factor straight. in tmac case, there are several ways to get him better. we've already known the microfracture surgery is one of the options since the season starts. we didn't find it out just in last couple weeks.

all doctors thought the microfacture surgery should be the last resort. do you know why? coz the microfacture surgery is not that simple like removing your finger nails. it could very well end his career.

if the doctor you mentioned said the microfracture is only solution to tmac knee problem, i will give you credit.

I'm not sure what "factor," you're referring to.

And it has EVERYTHING to do with credentials. NO ONE was talking about microfracture when the season started. Please show me one thread where a medical professional mentioned microfracture prior to February of this year regarding McGrady.

Wow thanks so much for educating me about microfracture being a bit more serious than clipping your finger nails. So insightful.

Anyway, I think it's strange that McGrady saw a shoulder specialist for his knee....that is the point I'm trying to raise genius.

I never heard anything about microfracture surgery until the past few weeks. The Rockets insisted it was just a matter of him strengthening his knee.

It appears that the issue is more serious than the Rockets believe or led us to believe. That doesn't excuse the manner in which McGrady went about things after the Milwauke debacle.
