Its scary how many people actually drink and drive all the time. The law needs to crack down on it more.
I agree with Drox/Isabel. I understand it was the spur of the moment thing, and you may not have seen another option at the time, but I never would have taken her anywhere. She almost killed you guys. And she's probably almost killed a few people just by her driving record.
Agreed I think we as Texans are too fricking nice sometimes I feel bad about not letting folx into my Gated Complex I'm like. . . IT'S GATED FOR A REASON!!! but I still feel bad Rocket River
Hey Uprising...remind me to call you and/or your sister if I'm ever breaking the law and need someone to help me out. I may need a place to crash or a ride somewhere. I wonder if you'll could be charged as an "accessory to DWI". LOL I'm surprised a cop didn't find the wreck and end up busting her anyway. She may have even been nice enough to tell the cop how you and your sister helped her out.
i'm sure uprising doesn't want to hear anymore, but i think he did the wrong thing as well. i'm glad everyone is okay as near accidents are almost just as scary as the real thing. 2 DWI is quite a bit already tho and she deserved 15 years in jail or whatever it is. do you mind me asking how old you are?
The snow was great. It snowed all weekend just before we went, (we started boarding on Monday), and it was great. The snow was perfect until about thursday. Then it got really windy and most of the snow blew away off the trails and it was icy. They made snow over night and on Friday it was great again. It started snowing the minute we left, and will be snowing till wednesday there. Crazy.
I'm pretty sure she still got in trouble, hopefully. Since there were a couple of other trucks hanging out at the accident waiting for the cops I think. I didn't help her hide any evidence. She didn't really appear drunk at first, and I didn't know of the DWI's till AFTER I had driven her there. Everyone at the bar seemed to know her, and none of them seemed to like her either. Apparently she wasn't very popular, and that kind of showed more of her personality.
ClutchFans, where you come if you haven't been judged in a while. I'm not sure I would have given the lady a ride, but I've never been in a ****ed up situation like that. It's not like Uprising knew before he took her that she had two previous DWI's.
Not trying to spook ya, but I would think that if one of those other witnesses got your license plate number, you could be in trouble as well. Leaving the scene of an accident is against the law and you helped with the getaway.
NOrmally I wouldn't have done anything, especially taking her to a bar. I didn't know that's where she wanted to go. I got into my truck to give her my cell phone to call friends/family. She called her bf and asked to be taken to the gas station down the street at first. but yeah, then she said it was a bar. I know I should have said no etc. but yeah. It was kind of the spur of the moment, and I don't think there was any way she got away with this. She just made it worse by leaving the scene. Oh well, I'm just glad she didn't hurt anyone. And I do hope she loses her license
There is no way I would let that chick's funky ass get in my car ~ as for the rest... Uprising, I hope you have learned a valuable lesson from the Clutchfans High Horse squad.
yeah she had two DWI.... and she should never drive again... but damn 15 years is STILL HARSH man... if it was a couple or maybe even 5... but 15? FREAKIN FIFTEEN???? ive heard of ppl getting 20 for manslaughter and rape.. yeah she should get her liscense revoked but i dont think she deserves 15 years... i mean on any given saturday night theres tons of 'drunk' drivers... some more than others... come on now she just totaled her car... if that was me id be devastated... that would be a BIG enough problem for me, i dont need to go to jail to realize i ****ed up... im not defending this chick.. DWI isnt cool, but 15 years is still not justified in my opinion... but then again we live in the EXECUTION capital of the country !! so what gives??
15 years is a perfect sentence, it'll keep people from driving drunk and keep them from hurting innocent drivers, statistics show that in the US almost half of the fatal accidents are caused by drunk drivers, that is manslaughter, and as you said manslaughter usually constitutes atleast a 20 year sentence I mean they give you 3 strikes, which i think is waaayyy to lenient Driving is not a right, it's a privelage.
DWI's a misdemeanor. The third offense makes you eligible for the court to file habitual on you, as it does with most offenses. In this case, they can up your sentence range from that of a misdemeanor to that of a felony. Generally, they give these folks about a 5 year prison sentence, of which they'll probably do 45% before receiving a serve-all. ~2 years. Nonetheless, it was a good thing of you to do - going back there to help. What ensued was fragmentary happenstance and people who weren't there can speculate on the wouldacouldashoulda all day to no avail.
the more i read, the angrier i was at the way you handled the situation...i just don't get it. why did you help her out? we've all messed up in our lives, i'm the last person to say i haven't (i'm sure you could find some of my worst mistakes if you searched the forum for threads started by me)...but... ...it seems to me like she could have easily killed someone else...or EVEN YOU. if she side swiped your vehicle at that speed you may have been killed in an auto-accident, so i just don't understand why you'd take that lady to a bar afterwards, which is basically hiding her from the cops. so she bought you a beer, what's that gonna do? fix the damage that the was done to your car (from the rocks or whatever you were saying). just as i have faced consequences for the mistakes that i've done in my life, and learned from, so too should she have been forced to bear the consequences of her third DWI.
Wow, based on these replies I can understand why every place I go people make jokes about Texans being self-righteous hypocrites.
3814, I was driving her down the road because she said she wanted to see her friends/family since her BF wasn't answering his cell phone. I haven't been around something like that off duty, and it was the first time I'd seen such a bad accident with my own eyes. We all thought she had to be dead or badly injured. But she was lucky to be walking with out a scratch. I wouldn't have accepted the beer for helping her/making sure she was okay and not injured. But my friends did, and so I knew we'd be there for a little while for them to finish them so I accepted one. It wasn't seeing it as pay off for helping her escape the cops. My first and only thought in my mind was her well being. I know, I know....now, that I should have had her sit down etc. to see if she was all right etc. And not drive her away. It was just making it worse for her to have her away from the scene. I was caught up in the moment and was pretty much doing what my sis and friends were telling me to do. I had no idea they all jumped into the truck so we could take her to a gas station to call her bf. I turned around after talking to another on looker and they were all in the truck. but yeah, whatever. I doubt she didn't get into trouble. I'm pretty sure she did get busted. I just found out something my friend did. My friends and sis were already pretty intoxicated when all this happened. I was sober and hadn't had a drink in about 24hrs. (since I was the driver). They had been drinking some kind of mixed drink earlier in the day. Well, my friend apparently found it a good time to get rid of the empty bottles that they had drank out of earlier in the day before we left at that time. I guess because he was worried about cops or something, but they were in the back of the truck. And I was driving and hadn't had anything to drink. But he got rid of the Jim Beam bottle right next to her car. So.....as wrong as it sounds.....I think he helped her get busted.
Damn, Uprising... I can understand you being "caught up in the moment," (thanks in no small part by your friends and relatives) but you were this close to being busted yourself. If you had done what most suggested, wait around for the cops and not left, your car would have been looked into, the bottles would have been seen, and you would have been busted under the open container law that we have in Texas. You would have spent the night in jail, probably, and had your own date in court. Damn, Uprising, you gotta be careful. I remember driving with an open beer, and being perfectly legal. It was that way until fairly recently... recently to me, anyway. Again, you were damned lucky.
