Are any of ya'll bikers? I have a question. Why do you have to dress up in a costume and shave your legs and stuff to go riding around your neighborhood? When I play basketball with my firends, I don't wear color-coordinated jerseys. When I play softball, I don't wear baseball pants with a jersey. If you're just riding for excercise, why do you feel the need to show everyone yer twig n berries? Are the hairs or your leg really going to slow you down that much on a casual ride?
No one does it for the look. You'll see plenty of casual riders wear regular shorts and Ts when they're on an upright going 8 mph for a few miles. When you ride long distances and at higher speeds, you need to wear gel-padded bike shorts or you'll chafe yourself badly in the worst place possible. The reason all the clothing is so tight is: shorts - prevent rubbing, act as a second skin jerseys - reduce wind drag. Yes, it does make a very big difference, even if you aren't an upper level rider. shaving - I know no one that does this. Really elite guys that compete may do this and get benefit from it, but so do swimmers. Runners are the same. A guy jogging 2 or 3 miles won't have to, but most anyone doing double-digit mile runs are going to wear more high end clothing and take precautions to deal with chafing. You aren't going to find too many runners in the Houston Marathon wearing what you would wear to play basketball or softball. Hop on a bike for 3 hours going 15 mph+ or go run for 2 hours going 6 mph+ wearing what you would wear to ball. You'll understand by the time it's all over. Evan
Padded bike shorts make a huge difference in comfort. I don't ride seriously or anything, but when I'm riding for more than 30 minutes or so, I wear bike shorts. (In polite company, I wear them underneath regular shorts.)
So... was that cop car riding at the head of the pack and then swerved to avoid the drunk driver? 'Cause that's... ****ed up.
I don't think so. That looked like they had two lanes closed for cycling, and split the remaining two lanes (biker's left) for traffic. Cop was escorting in the near left lane and same direction traffic was probably allowed there as well. Far left lane was probably for oncoming traffic. Drunk ******* was asleep at the wheel, saw the cop coming at him, and swerved into the two lanes closed for the bikers. MS150 has the same set up for stretches during the Houston-Austin ride. Evan
The photo is in MEXICO. Note the signs on the road and the "Federales" car. You sure about that...? Spoiler
That is some crazy/scary *****...RIP...Another reason not to drink and drive... My dad use to bike, but he got ran off the road many years back and broke his collar bone...
Nobody is on the wrong side of the road. It was a bike race. You can be on anyside you want. That driver is screwed.
You have got to love softball guy making fun of cycling guy... why don't you and your tall stripey socks go back to your dirt fields with your butch woman and drink more beer. PS~ on a serious note - this accident is a horrible tragedy.
Don't drink the kool-aid man. All his posts are like this. He just likes to stir things up. If you ignore it, it will go away.
Sad stuff, My Military school roommate was killed when riding his bike to school at Texas Tech. Hit and run, never found the assholes who did it, Maybe it was fairgame
Well - if it were a pack of dogs, even better someone's pets that they loved who were run over Moes would throw a party. He took it easy because they are humans, but I guess in his world, either way, fair game. Disgusting.
