Crawford Likely To Be Dealt For Watson
    23rd February, 2006 - 12:44 am
Greg Logan/Newsday - Although Isiah Thomas said he's satisfied with the team as it is, several NBA executives said it's likely Knicks shooting guard Jamal Crawford will be traded to Denver for backup point guard Earl Watson by today's 3 p.m. NBA trade deadline.

The Nuggets need a shooting guard, the Knicks need a backup point guard who doesn't require shots, and the salaries fit NBA trade guidelines.

With Francis and Watson, I'm sure they're thinking they'll be including Nate Robinson in their offer over the summer for Garnett. Minnesota will expect young talent in return, and I imagine both Channing Frye and Nate Robinson would be part of the package.

I need a dry erase board dedicated to NY's depth chart:
    Marbury - Watson - Robinson
    Francis - (Marbury/Robinson)
    J Rose - Q - Woods
    Frye - Taylor - Lee - M Rose
    Curry - James - Butler

And I have a feeling it'll change some more in the next few hours

Sonics sound just as confident that they'll land Watson. (Flip Murray, Poptapenko)

Just the latest installment in the "WTF IS GOING ON?" series of moves in Isiah's master plan.

That's not the rumor going around Denver. Big rumor here is that Watson will be sent to Seattle for Potapenko, Evans and Murray. Marc Spears (beat writer for Nugs) is saying by the end of the day we'll trade for Evans and Ruben Patterson. The only big rumor I've heard about NY is K-Mart for one of their overpriced PF's and Crawford.

Then again, nothing will surprise me today. I'm still sad the Iverson rumor is dead.

Three-way deal brings Watson to SonicsESPN.com news services

The Seattle SuperSonics have reached an agreement on a three-way trade that will bring guard Earl Watson back to the Sonics, who drafted him in 2001, ESPN.com's Marc Stein reports.

    Watson

The deal, which is expected to be announced later Thursday, sends Seattle forward Reggie Evans and Portland swingman Ruben Patterson to the Nuggets.

Portland, in its ongoing quest for salary-cap relief, was eager to part with Patterson and acquire Denver guard Voshon Lenard (whose contract expires at season's end) and Seattle center Vitaly Potapenko (who has only one season left on his contract).

The Sonics also receive a future second-round pick from Denver in the deal, which has been sent to the league office for official approval.

I think Kenyon Martin will be a Knick by the end of the day.

That would seem to be the logical option (if you could call anything Isiah does, logical), since Denver didn't get a SG out of this deal which is what they wanted. And Patterson and Evans can pretty much give them what K-mart was producing. Martin for Crawford + Luggage is my guess.

Kelly, was that a "think" or a "hint"?

Crawford and James would work, probably also sending Denver its pick back. Isiah would be an idiot to include Frye, given how bad Kenyon's knees seem (another microfracture surgery success story). Lee might be an okay throw-in. No need to pair Nate with Boykins.

FAR from a hint, I've no inside nuthin' on da Knicks.

Crawford's contract and Taylor's 2006-07 deal aren't pretty, but they're a lot prettier with Martin gone. Evans is an FA after this year, Ruben is 6.7 in 06-07 and then gone.

It's not a complete wipe out of Martin's deal, but it's close. And both Kiki and Karl have expressed admiration for Crawford.

For the Knicks, they get to trot out there, "we weren't going to be under the cap anyway" speech, followed by the "Jamal and Maurice were superfluous anyway" line.

EDIT: Probably Nene would be thrown in for Denver too. That may be a little over salary wise, though.
