Did anybody ever play a game called Nightshade? It was impossible in the fact that it made no sense at all.

I also remember a game called 8 Eyes being particularly hard.

Yeah, I really don't understand why Punch Out is on the list. It was challenging, but hardly rage-inducing.

Nightshade? 8 Eyes? Y'all are busting out some stuff I've never even heard of.

And I do remember GI Joe being particularly disappointing/frustrating.

Going WAY back, I never could do a damn thing in Donkey Kong. I don't think I ever made it past the second level.

Don't discount the possibility that trying to beat 8 Eyes was so traumatic that you pushed the memory deep into your subconscious mind...

TMNT was hard. Never beat it. Tried it in a emulator recently and wondered how I could get anywhere in that game.

Contra? I really had no idea people had problems beating that game. I used to complete it regularly (without the code).

Battletoads is impossible. I got very far in that game but never could get to the end despite trying countless times.

    Haven't played the rest.

One game, which, reading the FAQs, I get the impression no one (well, except for me) has beat without leveling up, is Captain Tsubasa II - probably my all time favorite NES game. I had memorized most of the Japanese 20 letter passwords when I finished the game. Some of the teams I probably played at least a hundred times before I beat.

About THE Nerd, what about Silver Surfer, anyone feel like it should be on this list?

Whatever that Star Wars game was on the SNES where Luke was having to jump around on the inside of that stupid Jawa Landcrawler... that game was miserably hard.

Whoever designed that game should be shot. Or worse, forced to play it every day.

It took me weeks to finally beat Mike Tyson, but once I beat him then it was easy. I was the only kid in my neighborhood who could beat him. Mr. Sandman always gave me trouble though.

I beat ghouls and ghosts one day and from what I remember, the game just started over, and I was like WTF?

Zelda was always tough for me, but I eventually beat it.

What no respect for MasterBlaster?? Probably the toughest game in NES history? My friend actually beat it once.. Yes people there is an end to Master Blaster lol

Also Goonies for some reason was hard for me but I was playing that game in my younger years (8-11) so maybe I just didn't have the brain capacity yet lol.

I had some game for the NES back in the day called Operation Wolf... I don't think I ever got past the 3rd level on that game. Stupid hard.

Mike Tyson's Punch Out does not belong on this list plain and simple. Everyone I knew beat Mike Tyson's Punch Out. If Mike Tyson's Punch Out is on your list of impossible old school video games then you are not a true gamer. Now Ghosts & Goblins that is a game that very few people were able to beat without using any cheats.

I can beat Contra without the 30 man code. Hardly impossible.

I would put Metroid on there. that game required some serious memory skills.

...huh? 3 of those were way, way popular back in the day. Especially Double Dragon.

You should try playing some of those old NES games now that you're grown up. I'm too ADD to play them anymore. Forgotten how much timing and waiting the different games were, especially Mega Man.

yeah, agreed. I bought the New Super Mario Bros for the DS.. boring as hell. And things were very similar to the original Super Mario Bros. Just got tired of jumping around and looking in every green pipe, hitting blocks, etc.
