Personal, I think any Alpha male have been douche one time another. What specifically make you dislike Paul?
Morey thinks Paul is the greatest PG of all time. (I have to assume he puts Magic Johnson in a slightly different class than a PG.)
Not sure then if you're saying you didn't understand his true intent, or you did and just wanted to get a jab in (sort of like my post now)
I think Morey said he thinks this because, based on his secret, super advanced analytics, CP3 actually beats out Magic. :O
Yes, CP3 is the better player if you're building a team from scratch. But we're adding these guys to what we already have. Howard is a bigger upgrade for us. And no, you can't assume if we get Howard that Asik is immediately gone. What CP3 offers in ball handling, shooting, steals, etc...a lot of it is already covered by what we have in our current backcourt. Howard, by comparison, does not really remove anything Asik contributes. Asik offers very little on the offensive end, and Howard and Asik are not exactly going to get in each others' way on the defensive side. You don't even necessarily have a reduction in Asik's minutes if you can find a way to play him next to Howard as well as use him as a backup C. Since we get absolutely NOTHING from the 4, Howard is a huge upgrade even if we have to play him next to Asik a couple minutes a game.
You guys need to remember a big part of decision making is revenue. While CP3 will fill seats and also is a bigger upgrade over Lin than Dwight is over Asik, he can't generate the same amount of money Lin can from overseas. Lin is a cash cow. Therefore, if you have a choice between Dwight and Paul, you go after Dwight. I think Lin would be a much better player playing next to Dwight. Look at his tapes from those Linsanity days. It was pick n roll with Chandler all day.
Ehh you are going to see a decrease in Asik's minutes if the Rockets get Howard. They both are centers and really do not have the offensive games to play power forward. Further, neither of them have a back to the basket game and neither wants to go to the line with the game on the line. However, a rotation of Paul/Harden and Lin makes more sense. Lin could gobble up all the minutes that Paul or Harden are off the floor. Further, the Rockets ideally would limit Paul to 32-33 minutes a game, which means that Lin could still get close to 30 minutes a game. Having said that, I do not buy for a minute that Lin stays if we get Paul and I do not believe Asik stays if Howard signs. That is to an extend wasted assets. I will be thrilled if we get either Paul or Howard, but I would not assume that Howard is the Rockets preference. Championships are usually won by dominant players, and other than LeBron and possibly Durant, you will be hard pressed to find a more overall dominant player than Chris Paul.
Uhh Chris Paul on the Rockets would bring a great amount of attention to the Rockets because you are looking at a team that has a real chance of winning a championship or two over the next few seasons.
Yeah...no way Lin stays if we get CP3. And it seems completely arbitrary that you think Lin would gobble up all extra minutes and CP3 play 33 minutes a game, yet expect Asik's minutes to go down and Howard to (implicitly) play a ton of minutes. Furthermore, Howard's camp has said Howard is interested in playing w/ Asik. This may be due to the fact that Asik would do all the 'dirty work' and can relieve Howard so that he can rest more and not be pushed too hard every night...so that he ages better like TD. Because of that, I am VERY doubtful we move Asik if we only get Howard. In fact, I Think they give Twin Towers a try and see how they do on offense, and have Asik practice some midrange jumpers during the summer. He has good form, maybe will even pull it off, though I'm not holding my breath. If it doesn't work, expect Asik to be moved at the trade deadline. No rush to move him this offseason, even if we get Howard, as the two could gel well, and it seems Howard wants Asik there. I would easily assume Howard is Morey's preference this offseason. He's the 1 to CP3's 1A. There are a TON of reasons for this, most of which would be the fact that Howard is actively considering Houston while CP3 is NOT. And you say championships are won by dominant players...sure, but that is who we hope Harden will be. Very few championships are won by dominant PGs. Dominant PGs are much less necessary to winning a ring than dominant big men, historically speaking. And don't forget -- just a year ago, Howard was considered just as dominant as CP3. Who knows, maybe he'll regain that dominance after fully healing (probably not), or maybe CP3's knees get worn down some more and drop in dominance. /shrugs
I have no doubt that CP3 is the best PG in the league because Jeremy said so . But if we get CP3, we should rebuild the team around him and the culture of the team will also change. I like the current team and culture
1. Magic Johnson 2. Chris Paul He can defend, score, clutch, create, make teammates better. everything you look for in a PG and in a leader. it would be an honor for chris paul to play for the rockets. i would love to have dwight, but dwight aint no cp3.....
So it depends a lot on what Howard wants to do. If Howard truly wants to play with CP3, he might stay in LA and just push for a Howard-Griffin trade to happen. This might be a long shot, but in my opinion, it is more likely than the scenario of both of Howard/CP3 signing with the Rockets. Otherwise the Rockets seems like a good destination for Howard, with a lot of young talents still developing.
If we assume we keep Lin & Asik, that means Howard isn't really upgrading the 5, he's upgrading the 4, where we have zero production. Whatever flaws a Howard-Asik frontcourt might have, it's infinitely better than Monejunas-Asik or Smith-Asik. This is an upgrade much more significant than CP3 bumping Lin to backup and Beverly out of the roster, mainly because CP3's possessions will come largely at the cost of Harden's usage rate. Harden isn't as good as CP3, but it would be very difficult to set things up so that both of them are being used effectively while both still produce enough to be worth those huge contracts. If we assume we ditch Lin or Asik if we get CP3 or Howard, Howard still has the advantage. Asik is a much more valuable trade asset for filling in the gaps the roster will have. You'd be lucky to find a GM willing to take Lin at all; good luck finding one who will actually give you a valuable player in return. Howard fits well with Lin on the offense, while CP3 will have just as much difficulty as Harden & Lin did this year doing P&R with Asik's stone hands. PS: Sure, you need a dominant player to succeed in the playoffs.Which one of those players single-handedly led his team to the Finals again?
Because it no longer seems a certainty that he will be a Clipper. Thus far he has not given any indication he will resign and the Clippers have mishandled the entire situation this off season. First the Clippers cannot get out of the first round. Then the owner of the Clippers says that DelNegro being fired was at the wish of Paul (which angered Paul). Then someone in the Clippers front office leaked that Chris Paul wants a black coach. Then the Clippers have Doc Rivers and Garnett almost fall into their lap and the Clippers back out because the owner doesn't want to give Rivers $35,000,000. Playing in LA is only worth so much.
He's become a whiny self-involved little prick, do not want. Rather have Lin who is humble and Beverley who is a ruthless warrior and all basketball.
Because CP3 is the LOHs' last best hope for Jeremy Lin not being our starting point guard of the future.
If there's a position you want to max out on, it should be center--the most valuable position by supply and demand.
