You seem to be upset. When someone says "I'm done with the Texans" if they don't hire a certain coach, that seems rather silly to me, and I don't think that person is much of a fan. If that offends you, and makes you angry, well too bad. I do not think "fairweather" fans and "bandwaggoners" are true fans. And, I hope we get Cowher.
No way Kubiak should stay if Bill Cowher is available. His record, style of play he coaches, and even image and personality are perfect for the Texans and Texas football fans. If he could make us a tough physical defense and add more "smashmouth" to the offense (which doesn't need too much, but it would still be nice for goal-line situations) plus some playoff wins, and it would become utopia in this city.
I don't know if anyone has done this yet, but can someone photoshop Cowher in a Texans coaching outfit + hat? Or maybe one of those neat change/hope meme picture. I want a new avatar for my texanstalk account. Thanks!
I hear ya...but if they trot out Kubiak again after the same mess over and over again (Groundhog Day), I have to say, I don't expect to be very interested. That doesn't mean I'll be rooting against them or rooting for some other team...because the Texans are still my team. But it does mean that I will approach next season with a much more ho-hum attitude....not nearly as concerned with watching every game, etc.
Just sick of stupid takes like that. So, you're better than him, right? Don't you see how silly that is? It's a game. An entertainment choice. You and I will watch every down of every game next season even if the Texans go 0-16. I'm with you. But to expect everyone else to feel that way is just silly. They can be just as interested in the Texans' success and just as emotionally invested without having to punish themselves by watching a piece of crap team lay turds on the field week after week. Good for you. Stick by your guns. I'm just wondering if you can see where I'm coming from. There is no such thing as a "true fan". Again, it's freaking sports. Concepts like truism and loyalty are just silly when applied to a freaking entertainment industry. I mean, I get the concept that we're obviously more into the Texans than somebody who loses interest when they freaking suck, but that makes us more obsessed than it does "true". Me, too. Me, too.
^^This. STFU, RipVanRocket. SO sick of "true" fans who 100% support the team no matter what decisions are made. I wear my Texan gear to this very moment, I display my bumper stickers and sing the praises regularly of my hometown. Been watching the Texans since day 1 (hundreds of days after my last Oiler game) and frankly, I'm sick of dbags like you coming out of the woodwork every single year that this team blows espousing meaningless fandom BS between gasps of air from the owner's member.
No need to resort to name calling. I would like to see both Kubiak and Smith be replaced, but I'm not going to make a silly statement like "I'm done with the Texans", if they don't make all the moves I want. I mean, what kind of a fan would really "be done" with a team just because they don't like the coach. I suspect most of the people that make such silly statements don't really mean it. The only fans that would truly give up on the hometown team, just because they disagree with personnel decisions, aren't that strong of a fan to begin with. I will be disappointed if Kubiak is still the coach next year, but I can't go and support another team, I'm a native Houstonian, I support only Houston teams. Please understand, we I say I support a team, and am a fan of that team, it doesn't mean I always agree with with the owner or the coaches. I think a person who follows a team, and pulls for that team to win, regardless of who coaches or plays for that team is a "true fan" of that team. I think most UT alums are "true fans" of the UT football team. They follow the team and pull for the team to win, regardless of who is coaching the team. They don't have to agree with all the personnel decisions, and many times they don't, but they are still fans. I only took offense to the phrase "I'm done with the Texans". I just find it hard to believe someone would no longer follow and root for a team, just because they don't agree with personnel decisions. I think telling me to "STFU" and calling me a "dbag" was uncalled for.
And herein lies the problem. You take it that seriously that you'd be offended? Really? Really?? We're not talking about parading around naked in the streets or burning the American flag here: we're talking about someone being disappointed and let down enough that he's just not interested anymore. How on earth is that "offensive"? So in response to the offended feeling you get you declare that you are a "true fan" and the other individual is something less. Don't you see how ridiculous that is? You're into them more than others. That's it. It's only a game. I will agree with you on this one.
Good grief, I apologize. I guess offended was not the correct word. But you see, I thought you were taking things too seriously when you said "I'm done with the Texans". Like you said, it's only a game. I mean you're still going to follow them to an extent, right? And you're still going to hope they beat the Cowboys, right? I guess maybe when I hear someone say "I'm done with something", I take it very literally. If for some reason we are stuck with Kubiak next year, but we get all new defensive coaches, and we draft some defensive backs, and we pick up some big time free agents, aren't you going to be interested to see what we can do next year? But yes, it would be much more fun with Cowher.
Well actually it wasn't me, but think about it: what's so bad about somebody being done with a football team? They suck, brotha. So if someone is just done with all the BS and chooses to invest his time, emotional energy, and/or money in golf or hanging with the family or hunting or something and only casual observe the Texans, he's now somehow less than you, the "true fan"? Don't you see how much crap like that comes across as holier-than-thou? Exactly. Which is why I think it's ludicrous to use terms like "true" and "loyal". Those guys will just as soon leave for the highest bidder, or the owner will cut them for the sake of a buck, but fans are supposed to be "true"? Give it a rest. It's an entertainment choice. Nothing more, nothing less. Oh, I'll be right there with you getting sickened week in and week out. And if you think I'm pitiful over the Texans, you should see me with my Astros. Taking it literally is fine, but treating it like Benedict Arnold is quite another. It shouldn't be taken that seriously. It's a game, for cryin' out loud. You'd better believe it! But also understand that I don't expect anyone, fan or not, to have any level of interest in it just because this is Houston and it's our team. That's how I roll, but what makes me better than anyone else? Nothing. Let people be different, bro. Let people express their frustration and disillusionment however, without coming at them with character-attacking overtures of how they're "not really a fan" and how you're a "true fan". None of us have enough blood pressure medicine to wade through BS like that. ...and how! Would love to see the Chin in Texans gear.
I agree. It is good that Rick Dennison is signed through next year so the offense can be intact for next year. John Fox, or Gruden would be fine alternatives to Cowher, but he is the preferred candidate.
Can someone tell me how John Fox would be good for the Texans? Not asking combatively; I just don't know much about him other than he's coached a fair-to-middlin' Panthers team for a while now.
Hard to say. He did take them to a Super Bowl and is know as a good defensive coach. It's hard to blame him when the organization essentially gave up on him before last season, only keeping him around so that they didn't have to pay him while having hired another coach (his contract is up after this season). They're probably holding out hope that Cowher is interested in staying in NC. He's also had to deal with a rash of injuries at the skill positions. Steve Smith has been hurt. They had to start a qb off the street...only after their rookie qb's were hurt. Both top rb's were injured as well. There was almost no hope for this season before it began and it only got worse.
It's interesting how that pendulum swings. Capers was so incredibly inept at managing an offense, or finding someone who could manage it and letting them do it, that we just *had* to get an offensive-minded HC around here or we were all going to just die. (anyone else remember this?) Now, with Kubiak here and a historically bad defense, we want a defensive minded head coach! Just LOL man. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
